Xantrex is a leading manufacturer of advanced power electronics products. I was responsible for establishing the market requirements of the XDC 6 kW programmable DC power supply series, then forming and leading a ten member multidisciplinary team of power and digital electronics, firmware and mechanical engineers and technologists for its development. I obtained a Technology BC grant from the Science Council of BC for researching digital control concepts applied to XDC 6 kW series.

To complement Xantrex’s power electronics expertise, I established an engineering group with embedded systems, FPGA, firmware and software engineering capabilities. This group was responsible for developing the company’s power supply computer control interfaces and host software, as well as research for applying digital control techniques to power supply regulation.

As a flexible consulting firm supporting British Columbia technology manufacturers, Piquant Research had extensive capability in embedded systems development, including electronics design as well as firmware engineering. My responsibilities included project management, electronics and firmware design, and system integration for broad variety of products developed for a wide range of customers.

Vibrante Technologies was a start-up company with a mission to develop hand-held analyzers for measuring the structural integrity of wood utility poles. Measurement techniques were based on patented methods developed by BC Hydro Research. My role was to coordinate development, system integration and test of our products and to conduct experimental and analytical research.
