I am a dedicated educator and leader who believes in student-centered learning. Before I became an English teacher, I was a public relations professional, earning several industry awards. I believe in cura personalis, caring for the whole student. As the head wrestling coach, I create our tournament schedule, coordinate travel arrangements, collaborate with parents, manage staff, provide technique sessions, and ensure every student-athlete receives a positive experience. Five years ago, I created a class about Ernest Hemingway’s short stories, built from my passion for twentieth-century American literature. In addition to presenting papers about Hemingway, I have given papers about Willa Cather, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Jack London at nine national and international conferences including the Modern Language Association Convention, the American Literary Association Conference, and the 2018 International Hemingway Conference in Paris. I am also a book critic with bylines in The New York Times, USA TODAY, the Harvard Review, the Minneapolis Star Tribune, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Los Angeles Review of Books, On The Seawall, and BOMB (upcoming).
