Qantas Loyalty is the growth engine for Qantas Airways responsible for the frequent flyer program and non-airline businesses. In 2015 an initiative was set up to spearhead Qantas into the financial services sector by creating a startup with Health Insurance as the first market release. The Customer Value Proposition (CVP) for the product was rewarding members with Qantas points for undertaking healthy activities. Wayne’s role was to take the business out of concept phase and to shape and deliver a Minimum Viable Product (MVP). Accountabilities included defining the delivery approach, cultivating can-do culture, facilitating MVP scope discussions, helping select and onboard an insurance underwriting partner, integrated build with insurance partner core platforms, standup a contact centre, build web and rich app capability, and support marketing, brand launch and brand association initiatives. During his tenure Wayne also successfully lead the launch of the Qantas Life Insurance business. Key to these successes was distilling Agile and Lean principles into appropriate practices for the programs. As part of the Leadership Team his ongoing role is to ensure the right collaboration and culture persists to make the business a success.

Program budget of A$250Million.

Program Manager - (Suncorp Group - Personal Insurance/Finance Industry):The Program Manager (Personal Insurance) role entailed replatforming the Suncorp, GIO and AAMI branded products as part of Suncorp's largest ever project, the Legacy Simplification Program. Accountable for IT technology and business change management Wayne delivered all three brands end to end by leveraging and extending large scale Agile and Lean program practices. The program was wildly successful; it dramatically increased revenue through improved product offerings, better channel optimisation and an incessant focus on customer experience. The program also decreased costs by simplifying the technology stack and optimising contact centres across the portfolio of brands. This project impacted over 6000 staff and replatformed over $5B worth of business off legacy systems. Program budget of $60M under management.

Agile Coach - (NBNCo - Telecommunications Industry):Wayne’s role was to coach the organization to be efficient in their delivery and to define the solution delivery model (SDLC) for governance of projects. Wayne also worked with the Program Director of the OSS program to help drive agile practices pertinent to a Commercial Off The Shelf outsourced project ($300M+). Successes included; improving collaboration at the senior executive level of the project, defining a change control process that was efficient in resource use, and helping the teams improve their capability through reflection.

Delivery and Change Management - (Superannuation):The client is one of Australia’s largest superannuation providers. Wayne’s role was to work with the CIO to improve the way projects were delivered and help integrate acquisitions into the organization. Wayne worked across two geographies to streamline delivery and to define and coach individuals into their roles. The main challenge for this project was clearly demonstrating a better way of delivering and consequently changing cultural aspects of the organisation to promote a continuous improvement ethos.

Project Management and Agile Transformation Strategy (Bankwest – Risk Management):Bankwest is an award winning financial institution based in Western Australia. Wayne was key in delivering their first agile project. The project was commissioned so the informational needs of Risk group case managers were fulfilled and they could subsequently make effective decisions on the best strategy for managing troubled and impaired assets (TIA). Wayne coached the client Project Manager and delivery team as well as defining the draft agile adoption and expansion pattern for the bank. The TIA project delivered a traditional 13 month project within 15 weeks through agile, found no defects within UAT, and was heralded as the highest quality codebase committed to production within the company.

Identity and Access Management (Shared Services/Enterprise Technology):Wayne has direct development management experience in implementing enterprise identity management and consumer authentication within Australia’s largest advertising company. Wayne was responsible for standing up the core system and connecting web properties allowing cross domain single sign on across the key brands for the organisation. Wayne was responsible for deploying the Sun Identity Suite with an in-house/vendor multi-disciplinary team. Responsibilities also included defining and negotiating a third party application support contract for ongoing maintenance and 24x7 99.99% support.High Transactional Website Technology and Delivery Management:Wayne has worked as development and delivery manager for 2 top 10 Australian websites. In his role he has been responsible for technology strategy, product development support, all development activites, and definition of core delivery practices. Key successes have included; content syndication of Australia’s richest advertising content through google, strategy definition and deployment of technology and content for Australia’s number one mapping site, and creation of Australia’s first location based sms application for directories and maps. Wayne’s key strengths are ensuring speed-to-market product releasing, designing applications for high performance, and aligning technology choice with business needs.Product and Technology Strategy:Wayne lead a team in corporate strategy charged with shaping the three year product and technology strategy for the organisation. Over a twelve month period Wayne was responsible for the research and development capability (prototyping and proof of concept) to shape Identity Management, Content Management, Unified Search, Online Transactions and Self Service domains.
