Over 25 years, I have been leading or collaboratively directing, planning, and implementing University-wide research computing solutions and projects. As Executive Director, I lead a team of 17 professionals dedicated to assisting researchers in effectively utilizing high-performance computing, visualization, and network resources to advance Boston University’s research and academic missions. Our core service, the Shared Computing Cluster (SCC), is a computing cluster servicing over 3,400 researchers (3x growth over the past decade) and 2,300 students (10X growth over the past decade), supplying 100M CPU hours a year and 10PB of storage. Its capabilities provide true leading-edge research solutions. In addition to these resources, my team and I provide extensive consulting, programming, and training services, offering a wide range of domain-specific knowledge and software in areas such as chemistry, physics, engineering, biostatistics, bioinformatics, genomics, neuroscience, machine learning, public health, economics, social sciences, microbiology, and infectious diseases. I also represent Boston University in the management of the Massachusetts Green High Performance Computing Center (MGHPCC), a research data center shared with four area universities (Harvard, MIT, Northeastern, and UMass) that has housed Boston University’s research computing resources for over a decade. My team and I also play a key role in managing and supporting MGHPCC shared resources, including the New England Research Cloud (NERC), the Northeast Storage Exchange (NESE), and the Northeast Cyberteam program (a program that provides research computing support to under-resourced institutions).
