Monitor trends in the industry to anticipate future opportunities and risks, facilitate technology and knowledge transfer between operations.• Review available rock characterization data (compressive strength, block size, density, fracture frequency, RQD, Young's Modulus, Poisson's Ratio, geotechnical structures, etc.) for each domain and support the development of drill and blast criteria for operations and projects in consultation with site and project teams.• Lead key critical initiatives, focused on delivering measurable improvements to projects and operations.• Provide guidance to mine design parameters, such as level spacing, bench heights, void and slot creation, that both optimize the mine and overall production performance.• Actively engage with sites in optimizing underground stope performance to minimize overbreak, underbreak and dilution to improve stope reconciliation across all underground sites.• Undertake regular and as required field visits to assess current status and the accuracy of designs, adjusting plans and instructions.• Perform fragmentation simulations to evaluate design conformance with plant feed specifications.• Propose/validate drill selection criteria, mode and drill specification.• Ensure that Explosives Management, Blasting Management, and Blast Fume Management Plans are updated with changes in relevant legislation, results of optimization studies and outcomes from blasting related incidents and audit reports.• Ensure the Blast Design Standards are optimized within a continuous improvement process. • Lead Drill and Blast Community of Practice within the organization.• Coach and support mine site engineering and operational personnel.

Responsible for technical training and skills development for the North American Technical Services Team. Produced Surface Blasters course for delivery to both external and internal customers giving participants a greater understanding of the blasting process. This course has been approved in some states as qualifying Blasters Training. Produced Open Cut – Safe & Efficient Blasting course which gives participants the knowledge to carry out blasting operations in a safe & efficient manner. This is a commercially available course. Created and delivered blasting based training courses (external & internal) which have been adopted and rolled out to Orica’s North American operations team as a baseline for all blasters. Delivered the above training packages to a variety of audiences including operational staff through to senior management Provided technical advice to coal mines, providing them with tools to better understand their sites operational constraints and further develop their operation through the blasting process.

Responsible engineer for a large global mining groups 3 large open cast coal mine operations situated in the Hunter Valley, NSW Australia. Project Management on new patented mining techniques such as Stratablast™ & through–seam blasting, delivering cost savings and leading to ongoing projects with this large group. I received accolades and bonus payments for my work in this area. Electronic blasting system specialist for South East Australia and New Zealand, providing support and training to customers and employees as an enabler for a variety of projects from safety related to optimization. Provided stewardship to Orica’s suite of explosive products in the open cut coal market, this support provided customers with a greater working knowledge of Orica’s products creating a safer and more efficient workplace. Support and training with site drill & blast engineers, educating the next generation of engineers in the D&B process to meet environmental & operational constraints, ensuring sites maintain their license to operate.

Responsible for product stewardship, new product development, trials, training and Introductions of the electronic blasting suite. Product development, worked with global technology group on projects for the better understanding of and improvement of detonator desensitization. These findings have resulted in a reduction in misfire rates. Delivered projects on time for the introduction of ikon™, Uni tronics™ 500 & 600 across Australia and New Zealand, resulting in year on year increases in sales of electronic blasting systems. Selected from a global team of experts for my knowledge of the i-kon™ system to assist the Latin American business with troubleshooting system errors as an existing contract was in jeopardy. The guidance I provided enabled the local team to understand the system and better serve their clients resulting in a number of contract renewals.  For my dedication and work in this field, I received numerous accolades and bonus payments.

Responsible Drill & Blast engineer for Orica’s “Rock on Ground” (complete blasting service including engineering) & “Total Load Service” (complete blasting service) contracts at 3 Open pit coal mines  Increased mine productivity & blasted inventory by introducing and implementing new mining techniques and blast designs. These changes resulted in improvements to dig rates & scheduling which improved the sites ability to meet production targets. Changes to blast designs brought cost savings to the mine of approximately 18% enabling the mining contractor to remain competitive and see Orica remain as its preferred supplier. Identified and implemented a solution to a chronic misfire problem due in part to challenging geology that was experienced with previous supplier by using an electronic blasting system with two way communication.  Improved blast designs to reduce the number of blast related complaints and allowed the customer to maintain their license to operate in a challenging regulatory environment.

Responsible for safety and management of a Total Load Service Site.  Provided the customer with a well maintained fleet of bulk trucks and highly skilled blast crew, resulting in the operation consistently meeting its production targets. Operation held the title of largest ikon™ user in the world, this resulted in having a highly skilled, motivated and proud blasting team. Site comprised equipment and storage for over 200tn of explosive precursors and associated equipment which were maintained and stored to regulations. This was achieved through a regimented process and documentation system that I was responsible for (ISO 9000).  Direct reports on site consisted of 22 unionized blasters & operators Responsible for annual revenue in excess of AUD 25 m

Responsible for the mines on-bench blasting activities. 2IC or team lead, consisted of day to day supervision of on bench activities and acting site manager when required. Mine was a through seam coal operation with a challenging ore body, providing a unique opportunity to develop specialized blasting skills. Electronic detonating systems were employed on site due to the challenging conditions that existed. This resulted in a set of high end skills in the use of Orica’s latest’s detonator system. The training and experience gained here would offer me the opportunity to be the regional EBS specialist.  Delivered a world record ikon™ blast at the Rix’s creek mine in 2005.

Responsible for the safe and efficient delivery of bulk explosives to the areas “Down The Hole” (product manufacture & supply only) customers. Part of a team of 12 operators, servicing 5 open cut mines with a fleet of 11 bulk trucks. Actively participated in new product trials throughout the region and served as a relief operator around the country where needed, this offered additional skills and experience to be obtained. Selected by management to be up skilled as a blaster for regions first Total Load Service site.
