Paper Manufacturing US and CanadaMcNairn Packaging operates four manufacturing plants across North America producing more than 2,000 SKUs of packaging products for the food service, supermarket, bakery, and food processing markets. My role was to deliver visionary executive leadership so the company could continue to grow and prosper, focusing on national accounts, supermarkets, packer processing, industrial applications, and our distribution network. Under my leadership, we were able to initiate continuous improvement processes within the sales, marketing, and customer service functions, lead corporate planning sessions in the U.S. and Canada that brought together union and non-union employees, and implement Lean manufacturing processes throughout all plants. --One of the problems we were faced with was that 90% of our finished goods cost was raw materials, creating a competitive disadvantage for the company. I set up meetings with our raw material suppliers to reduce our purchase price. As a result, we were able to reduce material costs by $6M per year, and sales went from a negative decline to a positive growth. --One of the things that was standing in the way of tremendous growth for the company was our sales team – they lacked strength, accountability, focus, leadership, and an understanding of our business. To mitigate this, I hired several new sales professionals who had an outstanding understanding of sales and manufacturing, and provided them with the training, mentoring, and leadership they needed to be successful. --I refocused the sales and marketing teams on servicing existing national accounts—including Wendy’s, A&W, Yum’s, and Tim Horton’s—and aggressively sought new national accounts. We were able to close three in the U.S. and four in Canada in a brief time frame. Developed a supermarket group which was not a focus of the company and went from less than 10 % market share to over 45% in Canada alone.
