During this tenure, NuVista underwent significant change in its focus, resulting in significant improvement in the company's financial position, but requiring marked changes in the size and makeup of the employee base. A key challenge was employee attraction and retention, and maintaining employee morale during this period of change. Significant accomplishments include leading the development of a Leadership Development program, training and development curriculum, comprehensive review of the total compensation program, and the establishment of various HR guidelines and procedures. Also negotiated a new corporate office lease resulting in annual savings approaching .9 MM.

A newly created position focused on the amalgamation of the US and Canadian divisions of Brodero Shaw and Shaw Pipe Protection Ltd. into a single trans-border organization. The role included overall responsibility for the HR and Labour Relations functions for 5 production facilities in Canada, 4 in the US and staff offices in Calgary and Houston.

Reporting jointly to the President and CEO of Value Creation Inc. and the President of BA Energy Inc., the mandate was the creation of the Human Resources program for both companies and to direct the organizational development and recruitment of personnel into this start-up business. The Value Creation group was focused on the construction and operation of the Heartland Upgrader in Ft. Saskatchewan, utilizing radically new upgrading technology, as well as the development of extensive landholdings in the Ft. McMurray area.

This role was established in April, 2000 with the mandate to establish a Human Resources department within the newly created Flint Energy Services Ltd. organization. Initially bringing together 8 separate companies that had been acquired and were in the process of being integrated in a single entity. The company continued to evolve through both acquisitions and organic growth in both Canada and the US. Key accomplishments included the design and execution of the company's total compensation program, implementation of a Values Based Leadership program, and the establishment of a comprehensive training and development program for all salaried staff and field leadership. Responsible for the development of strategic organizational design to facilitate improved movement of personnel between divisions and facilitate a more effective labour relations program.

Responsible for the facilitation of all HR aspects of the integration of the operations of Luscar Ltd. and Manalta Coal Ltd. following the acquisition of Manalta by Luscar in 1998. Following the completion of the assignment, assumed responsibility for all labour negotiations for the expanded organization. Successfully negotiated multiple collective agreements with 5 unions at multiple locations, within established mandates and without a work stoppage.
