I love the challenges of working in a startup environment. My first quasi-real job in college was working in retail with the Orlando Magic when we transitioned to a larger, new arena with many more points of sale, requiring a new way to operate the division. I didn't know it then, but it was my first taste of logistics – Receiving, putaway, picking, restocking, cycle counts, and many other aspects of the supply chain.I joined my first 3PL in 2012 and was responsible for growing dedicated transportation accounts that had been declining in recent years. It was in a new office, under new leadership, and very much a startup atmosphere. Once the mission was accomplished, I moved on to warehouse operations in what was then the worst-performing reverse logistics center in the 3PL's network. I cut costs and implemented new processes that are still used today.I rejoined the freight brokerage division in 2014 to build the 3PL's first-ever inside sales brokerage office from the ground up. In 5 years, I implemented two different TMS systems, including a home-grown TMS (Transportation Management Software), a new carrier compliance monitoring software (Saferwatch / MyCarrierPackets), generated $35M in new brokerage revenue, and hired 46 carrier and customer sales representatives. Supply chain technology was rapidly expanding throughout my career, and when we had the opportunity to build a TMS, I knew what I wanted to do in the next step of my career. I joined the supply chain technology startup Firebend, owner of Freight Genius TMS and Control Tower Platform, in 2020, where I served as the conduit between TMS customers and Firebend’s technical product owners. I was responsible for the customer experience and implementation of our TMS. In addition, I led the product vision, strategy, and execution of our internal go-to-market product roadmap. Firebend helps customers increase visibility, productivity and digitize manual processes in their supply chain, often caused by siloed, home-grown, or outdated technologies. Firebend's platform is headless, meaning it provides a pre-built suite of supply chain APIs ranging from warehousing management (WMS), order management and visibility, inventory management, and yard management (YMS) while allowing custom front-end interfaces that connect to any combination of home-grown systems, third-party applications, or preferred systems of new partners.
