Cryogenic Engineering Intern
I had the incredible opportunity to work at Type One Energy Group as a Cryogenic Engineering Intern. Type One Energy's magnet program exposed me to the world of stellarators and the systems necessary for their successful development. Under the leadership of DJ Ravikumar, I gained experience designing cryogenic systems for stellarator magnet testing, including cryogenic baths, thermal shields, and cryostats. On these projects, I collaborated with members of MagLab, Air Liquide, and the PSFC. I also had the opportunity to conduct hands-on testing of superconducting tape and cables, such as CORC, and to familiarize myself with analysis software like ANSYS to determine thermal stresses and strains. At Type One Energy, I had numerous opportunities for professional development. Notably, I presented at large-scale design reviews on work pertinent to the company's long-term goals. Additionally, I honed my technical writing skills by drafting a technical specification and statement of work for the procurement of a cryogenic testing facility that I designed.
