I have a bachelor's degree in Biochemistry from the University of Benin, Nigeria, where my interest in immunology, infectious diseases, and vaccines first ignited. Shortly after my undergraduate training, I stumbled into science communication, lured by the idea that simplified and accessible science can have extensive positive impacts on both individuals, communities, and governments. As a science communicator, my writings have appeared on Gavi | VaccinesWork, The Biologist, The Biochemist, Nigerian Observer newspaper, African Science Literacy Network, and elsewhere. I also recently (June 2024) launched a Medium blog to explore my interests through simple, engaging, and educative content. Alongside being a writer, I host The Immunology in Africa Podcast (ImmunoAfrica). I founded this platform in August 2022 to spotlight the works of African immunologists, promote engagement in immunology and related research, and help next-generation scientists find inspiring role models. So far, the podcast has featured guests from over 10 African countries and has been listened to in more than 50 countries across 6 continents. In November 2020 and working alongside Martin Ikhoyameh & Dolapo Olawoyin, I was inspired to launch an initiative that'd provide nurture and support to young and emerging bioscientists from Africa. That idea birthed 'Biospherea', a community which has now grown to accommodate 100+ young students and professionals in bioscience from at least 10 African countries (and counting). Biospherea connects bioscientists across the continent, fostering opportunities for learning and skills acquisition, collaboration, and mentorship.I mostly spend my free time reading — and occasionally, I'd stumble on an idea or a concept that inspires or fascinates me. Marie Curie's quote, 'Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less', is one of my current favourites.
