Web Cavenee is Emeritus Distinguished Professor, UCSD and Branch Director, Ludwig Institute. He is an elected member of the US National Academies of Science and Medicine, the German Aademy of Sciences Leopoldina, the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the Academy of the American Association for Cancer Research. He is widely known for his discoveries in the genetic basis of human cancer predisposition and in the malignant progression of brain tumors. These studies led to more than 400 published scientific papers and nearly 100 international honors. He has served as the President of the American Association for Cancer Research. He has also founded and/or served on the Boards of Directors or Scientific Advisors of a dozen startup biotechnology companies in five countries.
