I am a partner specialising in EU and UK competition law at Shearman & Sterling. I was really proud to have been made up at this great firm at the beginning of January 2014. I've worked in the antitrust team here since the beginning of 2006 – during which time the team has grown significantly. We now have one of the largest European antitrust practices of any US headquarted firm with myself and Matthew Readings leading the team in London.I have a broad-ranging practice advising clients (mostly corporates and financial institutions) on the full range of antitrust issues, including: merger control - both UK and EUMR, CMA market investigations, cartel follow on damages actions, as well as behavioural antitrust cases. I also have substantial EU State aid experience.

I worked as counsel at Shearman & Sterling for two years. The counsel role gave me an opportunity to lead matters and generate work. Shearman & Sterling has an all equity partnership making the counsel role similar to that of a salaried partner elsewhere.

I was promoted to senior associate in 2009. I was working on the same broad range of cases as previously, but was able to take on more responsibility as my experience deepened.

I moved to London to work for Shearman & Sterling at the beginning of 2006. We undertook some really interesting and demanding cases throughout this period which offered excellent experience in cutting edge EU and UK competition. Cases such as the phase II EU merger clearance for Nokia/Navteq and a novel 'fix it first' merger case before the OFT.

I qualified into the EU Competition & Trade team of Eversheds in 2003. I spent two and a half years working on a wide range of competition, trade and other more general EU law matters. My time in Brussels gave me a wonderful opportunity to meet and work with a wide range of people both within and connected to the EU institutions.

I started my training contract at Eversheds in Birmingham, UK. My training seats were real estate, intellectual property, followed by secondments to the Eversheds' Brussels office (where I qualified) and to a client involved in major US IP litigation.

I was seconded to Sendo to help the company pursue its smartphone patent and trade secrets litigation against Microsoft.

I spent six fantastic months working with Philip Withers-Green in Bolivia. Phil was the Bolivian correspondence for The Economist and various other eminent publications. I learnt a huge amount both about high quality journalism and about Bolivia - which is a truly amazing place.

I worked at PHS Greenleaf as a plant service technician during student holidays. The job essentially involved long days driving around London in a white van looking after interior plant displays. Taught me the vital life skills of hard work and driving in central London.
