The NHS 111 programme is seeking to introduce a simple three digit telephone number to improve urgent care access, encourage and direct patients to the most suitable care in an efficient manner; this is associated with £10bn of expenditure.I successfully completed in-depth analysis and produced regular reports on pilot site data, informing Directors, members of the NHS and pilot leads of the results directly. This work utilized my programming, communication and analytical skills.Key Achievements:• Developed an information (or monitoring) system that produced key performance measures from a wide range of routine data collections, covering different timescales and suppliers• Analysed weekly data using SAS, Excel and statistical techniques to produce tailored reports, for the pilot site leads, that monitored performance in key areas to ensure a high level of service was maintained.• Responsible for supplying management information directly to the national policy director; for which I received positive feedback.• Produced ad-hoc analysis to support the evaluation and preparation of data for National Statistical publications.

The Primary Medical Care team in the Department of Health deals with the contracts and payments for General Practitioners and their practices, which accounts for approximately £8bn.As an analyst within this team, I successfully supported senior officials, sourcing data and under taking analysis to inform policy decisions. My work involved applying many techniques such as forecasting, statistical analysis, validation techniques and problem structuring.Key Achievements:• Created a Microsoft Access Database, using SQL, to produce timely management information reports that allow colleagues easy access and manipulation of key raw data. • Applied my skills within SAS to manipulate data and complete regression analysis, using large Office of National Statistics data sets, to calculate the magnitude of the spatial wage differential between General Practitioners and their comparator professions. This is used to assess the impact of implementing a new payment formula that efficiently allocates GP resources and, to inform national contract negotiations. • Created layered maps within Geographical Information Systems software to analyze the relationships and characteristics of GP practices.• Undertook cost benefit analysis to contribute to an impact assessment, on the effects of implementing a new pay for performance framework.• Developed a methodology, applying the Markov Chain Monte Carlo method, to determine the balance between different measures in the Commissioning Outcomes Framework to inform payment of quality premium.• Updated large Microsoft Excel based models, used in National negotiations, across £1.1bn of expenditure and validated them against public data.• Multiple presentations to colleagues to inform and promote the benefits of having analytical students working within a team and the variety of work they complete.
