About Wee-Jun Ong (王伟俊)

I am a Professor in the School of Energy and Chemical Engineering (SECE) at Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM). I am the Director of Center of Excellence for NaNo Energy & Catalysis Technology (CONNECT) at XMUM from 2021. Since January 2022, I have been appointed as the Assistant Dean of SECE at XMUM. My research interests include the development of nanostructured materials for diverse energy and environmental applications in catalysis, energy conversion and energy storage. This includes photocatalysis, photoelectrocatalysis, electrocatalysis, thermal catalysis and battery devices. Photo(electro)catalytic reduction of carbon dioxide, water splitting, nitrogen reduction to ammonia degradation of pollutants and electrochemistry are within my research strength. My expertise also lies in designing tunable nanostructures, especially advanced 2D nanomaterials such as graphene derivatives, graphitic carbon nitride, MXene, metal dichalcogenides and metal-free materials. Overall, my research approach is multidisciplinary as it involves the collaboration from researchers of diverse backgrounds, namely (but not limit to) chemical engineering, materials engineering, computational engineering, electrical engineering, physics and chemistry.
