About Wei Shen
Prof Wei Shen (Erik) has over twenty years experience in international education and global developments in Asia, Europe and Oceania. Wei has an excellent understanding of policy and educational landscapes for education and people to people exchange between nations, and has studied, worked and lived in China, Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, Singapore, UK, France, Belgium prior to his latest relocation to Australia. He has worked in a number sectors such as universities, think-tanks, international organisations, governmental bodies and NGOs.Wei was appointed as the Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor (International Relations) at Deakin University in 2017, to oversee the University's international relations and partnerships areas and since then made significant progresses in the areas of strategic partnerships, transnational education, global learning and international outreach. Prior to this, he held professorship and senior roles at Lancaster University (UK) and ESSCA School of Management in France. He has also been an adjunct professor at Sciences Po de Paris, Institut des Hautes Etudes Européennes (Strasbourg), Bayreuth University, Antwerp Management School and leading Chinese universities. In addition to academia, he co-founded the Europe-Asia Centre in Brussels, and worked for French Institute of International Relations (IFRI), Council of Europe (Strasbourg), Asia-Europe Foundation (Singapore), International Organisation for Migration (Geneva), UNESCO (Hamburg) and International Fund for Agricultural Development (Rome).Prof Shen's expertise in international education has been recognised by appointments to the international advisory boards/committees of universities and business schools in France, Germany, China (Mainland and Hong Kong). He has also been an independent academic expert for the European Commission's research and education framework programs since 2010. Prof Shen has also been a peer reviewer for the European Foundation for Management Education (EFMD) for assessing business school accreditations in Morocco, Vietnam, Cyprus, China and India. Under the patronage of the EFMD, he co-founded the Alliance of Chinese and European Business Schools (ACE).As a leading scholar on Asia-Europe relations, Wei holds a Jean Monnet Chair in EU-China Relations. He is currently working as Editor in Chief: Asia-Europe Journal (AEJ) and the Series Editor of Routledge Handbook on Europe in the World. His articles and interviews have appeared on journals and media such as Le Monde, International Herald Tribune/New York Times, China Daily.
