Wei Yan works as the founder of VisualThreat, a leading connected-car security company based in Silicon Valley. He oversees teams across diverse locations and cultures, including the US, India, China, Vietnam and remote freelancers, to develop automotive security testing softwares and devices. With extensive knowledge of automotive communication protocols such as CAN bus, CANFD, DoIP Ethernet, OBD, truck J1939, and more, he possesses expertise in automotive manufacturing testing, automotive cyber security, ECU hardware design, vehicle autonomous driving integration, car diagnostics, used car inspection, and automotive mileage fraud detection.Dr. Yan manages both local and remote teams to successfully deliver products according to the roadmaps. Additionally, he possesses hands-on experience in vehicle testing experiments, system hardware wiring integration, vehicle data access/collection/analytics. Under his leadership, the teams successfully developed the first fully-automated automotive black-box cybersecurity testing product, which has helped 15+ car manufacturers enhance their vehicle cybersecurity by detecting and addressing security vulnerabilities/flaws. He was also an active members of several SAE's automotive cybersecurity standard groups and holds patents for innovative solutions such as automotive firewall, security testing, and vehicle-cloud security authentication.In addition, He is adept at presenting products at various industry shows and conferences, and skillfully leads teams to follow up on sales leads. He serves as a bridge between R&D and sales teams, and possesses a keen ability to tailor product features to meet specific customer requirements.He also possesses the capability to rapidly build demo systems for training or proof-of-concept purposes. For example, he has built a variety of systems, such as an autonomous CAN/video/GPS data acquisition device, the Tesla's Bosch braking demo system, the truck simulator for security testing, the yacht NEMA communication system, the used car inspection tool, and the cargo van electrical enhancement system.Dr. Yan previously worked in McAfee, Trend Micro and Symantec joint venture as security architect and research scientist, and has deep understandings of anti-malware, mobile threat intelligence and auto security.
