Working on automation projects for Vertex Pharmaceuticals, I managed operations of the company-wide Environmental Monitoring System, working with cross-functional teams across multiple departments and sites. I executed implementation projects to meet business needs, including high-capital and facility expansion projects. I identified areas of opportunity and executed improvement projects to enhance system reliability and user experiences.

I headed a team of five on the design, procurement, and implementation of a pilot-scale process plant to generate process heat from biomass. I performed and presented technoeconomic calculations, including capital cost estimates and cash flow analysis, which helped to secure a multimillion-dollar funding package. I also contributed to the design and model of an emissions separation process, which is being submitted for a patent application.

I led a student team of two to investigate the feasibility of an electrochemistry-based chemical process proposed by Schlumberger. We developed ASPEN PLUS simulations to make key design decisions and determine system energetic requirements and economics. At the end of the month, I delivered key results to and fielded questions from executives in a final presentation, further summarizing the results in a report that served as the basis for future investigations.

As part of two student teams, I developed separate mechanistic and machine learning models to enhance proactive process analytics capabilities of a key commercial biologics process using production data. I delivered weekly findings with teammates in presentations to Merck employees in various departments and locations.

I served as a co-TA for 10.494A and 10.494B, two half-semester courses covering topics in process design. For 10.494A, I planned and led interactive tutorials to demonstrate standard procedures in Aspen Plus. In addition, I held office hours twice a week to help students with their process design projects in scaling up lab-scale technologies to full-scale plant processes with the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. For 10.494B, I helped to organize the logistics for, write documentation for, and lead an at-home experiment to observe and understand the factors affecting mixing in microfluidic devices.

I performed technical assessments, equipment sizings, quotations, and order reviews for process instrumentation for industrial applications in 13 states across the Midwest. I also managed special pricing and applications for targeted instrumentation in the agricultural industry.

I was an undergraduate research assistant for the Sustainable Electrochemical Energy Lab (SEELab), working on electrochemistry and tomography projects under Professor Iryna Zenyuk and graduate students. Alongside my regular project duties, I traveled to Argonne National Laboratory in July 2018 to conduct beamline micro-CT experiments, including battery cycling and water injection.
