Upon graduating with a PhD, I transitioned from academia into business by joining the world’s largest diversified mining company as a Technical Marketer—a role that perfectly aligned with my career aspirations. Technical Marketing is a pivotal function in the mining sector, strategically positioned between production and the market. In this role, we blend technical and commercial expertise to connect mining operations with the front office sales team.In the early stages of my career, I faced challenges with commercial discussions. To enhance my commercial acumen, I pursued a part-time program in Applied Finance during my first year. This experience broadened my understanding of sales and marketing. Fourteen years later, my learning journey continues as I pursue a Professional MBA at Nanyang Business School in Singapore. I am deeply appreciative of the support from my manager and team at South32, which has enabled me to apply new insights and develop stronger management and leadership skills.Passionate about sharing knowledge and giving back to society, my colleagues and I volunteer as guest lecturers at the Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, for a second-year undergraduate course on Commodity Markets. Our goal is to highlight the mining industry’s contributions to developing natural resources that enhance lives today and in the future, and to help groom the next generation of mining professionals.I look forward to connecting with you to share insights and foster mutual growth.
