I am (formally) retired - but busy as ever as the Webmaster of the Great Western Coffee Shop forum at http//www.passenger.chat and - from May 2021 for 4 years (8 if they will have me) as a Town Councillor in Melksham (Independent in case you wonder). Also very much involved with improving bus and train services through projects / groups such as Option 24/7 ( http://option247.uk ) and the Melksham Transport User Group ( http://mtug.org.uk )I worked in the IT industry for many years, and I've been fortunate to be in roles I've had. I enjoy learning from others, and imparting and sharing my knowledge too, which is why my job positions moved more and more to technical customer facing roles such as deep technical support and niche / technical training ... which I really enjoy enjoyed. Specialties: Open Source trainer - Linux, Lua, Ruby, Python, PHP, Perl, Mysql and more!Home life - we live quietly in Melksham, within the ward I now represent. Empty nesters as the chidden left home many years ago (and we can admire the independence they have, and how they achieve things we never did) ... the gap (if you call it that) filled by Lulu and Lightning (greyhounds) and of course Billy (our mostly-greyhound).

Webmaster And AdministratorGreat Western Coffee Shop Passenger Forum Feb 2007 - PresentMelksham, England, United KingdomThe "Coffee Shop" forum was set up in 2007 by passengers, for passenger and has thrived since. We now have a database of some 25,000 topics with a total of over 300,000 messages, with messages being added at around 1,000 per month. When the Coffee Shop was set up, it was envisaged as a project with a limited life, but it has proven useful and popular - not only with passengers, but also as an information source for professionals on passenger views, and as a co-ordinator of views so that passenger requests can be better co-ordinated and informed. Looking forward to 2019, we will be rebuilding the databases and software to move us on from software that has carried us well through the last decade to software and systems that will be a firm base for the next decade.I currently host the site on my dedicated server, and do all the technical background stuff. Over the next 12 months, we plan to change that and become fully constituted and with resources configured to that we are no longer key man dependent.
