Wen-I joined Alkermes in 1998 and currently serves as a senior staff scientist in translation medicine . This marks the 18th year that he have served at Alkermes. During this year, he applied his expertise in PK/PD, mathematical modeling, and clinical simulation to help project teams solve critical problems, present new research findings. His work (recent examples below) continue to drive Alkermes to adapt modeling and simulation as key components in successful drug development. - Instrumented the success of VIVITROL® pop PK modeling & simulation for adding pAUC into bioequivalence requirement for a generic drug wish to prove bioequivalence to VIVITROL® which is adopted by FDA in the recent changes of the Office of Generic Drugs bioequivalence guidance for VIVITROL®. - Successfully achieved PK modeling for monthly ARISTADA™ for post-phase 1 submission, which resulted in the FDA grant of directly moving ARISTADA™ from phase 1 to phase 3 , which significantly help to shorten time for NDA submission and approval.- Revitalize BYDUREON® (exenatide extended-release ) project by proposing weekly dosing, which predicted reduced adverse events and enhanced efficacy. This critical weekly dosing scheme of BYDUREON® later leads to success in the clinical study an lead to current marketed BYDUREON product.Wen-I received a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering in collaboration with the Pharmaceutics division of college pharmacy at the University of Kentucky with a focus on sustained release drug delivery. His three year Post-doctoral training at Penn State focused on inhaled and sustained release drug delivery.
