AmeriCorps Volunteer in Service to America (VISTA) placement at Promise House as a Community Relations Liaison. In this role my responsibilities included community engagement, education, and outreach; volunteer networking and recruitment; assisting with ongoing fundraising efforts and public speaking on behalf of Promise House.

In my capacity as a Secondary Facilitator, my main objective was to develop a network within the school district of phenomenal and passionate teachers. To facilitate that, I coordinated the development of training modules for teachers district wide as well as created individual growth training plans for specific teachers. I implemented and practiced equal distribution of materials throughout the district, often removing excess materials from a wealthier site to another site where resources were more scarce. My position also required the development of curriculum and materials that worked well with the curriculum. In that capacity, I sat on the district textbook adoption committees for English as a Second Language and English Literature. I oversaw a district curriculum writing committee to develop a new curriculum for Non-English speakers with limited education (ENES). In addition, I was a member of the state curriculum committee for English to develop the standardized state writing test for 11th grade English.
