Clinic ManagerSierra Family Medical Clinic, Inc May 2003 - May 2004During my first year at Sierra Family Medical Clinic I was asked to join the team due to their sudden loss of a couple of strategic staff members which meant they had lost quite a bit of institutional memory. This first year saw us constructing solid policies and procedures for everything from patient intake, to front office and clinical workflows, billing and collections, record-keeping, QA including regularly-scheduled staff, clinician and QA meetings. This small clinic at that time had 16 employees; I was responsible for oversight of staff and providers, workflows, compliance with regulatory guidelines, navigation through then-new HIPAA guidelines (many of which were at that time a bit vague and quite a labyrinth with which to work), and research for and implementation/oversight of a busy Telehealth Program. Toward the end of this first year, as I was asked to stay on full-time as Operations Officer and upon accepting, I was responsible for the set-up of an on-site, full-time, full-service dental clinic including EHR system, recruitment, hiring and training of staff and providers, etc. Richard J. DicKard, DDS (retired) 7/78 – 12/01

Office Manager, Practice CoordinatorRichard Dickard, Dds Jul 1976 - Dec 2001The first two years with Dr. DicKard my duties fell into the category of Registered Dental Assistant; I was one of only two RDAs at that time in Nevada County when the possibility of licensure for this position first began. Shortly after this, I moved on to become the Dental Office Manager. My responsibilities included bookkeeping, telephone screening and appointment scheduling for this busy practice with 3 Hygienists and 1-2 dentists utilizing 4 additional operatories, billing, collections, operational over-sight, facilitation of regularly scheduled staff meetings, guidance surrounding effective problem-solving between providers/staff/patients. A few years later, upon my employment at SFMC, Dr. DicKard was instrumental in helping us in fleshing out our new dental program and agreed to continue for several years as a volunteer dentist 1-2 days per month.

AssistantLutz Adult Day Services Oct 1994 - Jun 2001Primary responsibilities included acting as “right hand” to E.D. and gathering of clinical data and medical necessity documentation for Treatment Authorization Requests (TARs), submittal and follow-up of TARs, implementation of programs for maintenance of existing skills for adults with varying levels and types of dementia, and billing/collection follow-up with the State of CA for services rendered. I occasionally helped run the Activity Program for clients on a daily basis as needed. About half of my time I offered on a volunteer basis as this was a non-profit and operated on a very thin budget. Though the State aspect of paperwork could be troublesome and stressful, this was a very heart-warming and rewarding program.

Registered Dental Assistant (Rda) And Office ManagerMark Paye Dds Jan 1976 - Jan 1978Having completed my dental schooling in both the Dental Assisting and Medical Front Office Management programs and following my externship I was quickly hired to work in this small practice with one dentist and 3 operatories. I was responsible for all aspects of the Chairside Dental Assisting and Front Office functions including rooming of patients, chairside assisting, clean-up and sterilization of operatories and equipment/instruments, re-stocking, appointment scheduling, private party and insurance billing, and collection follow-up. My high energy level, great organizational skills and self-motivation enabled me to do all this efficiently though I was quite young at the time.
