Wendy Baxter is a forest canopy ecologist who has conducted research in some of the most pristine old-growth giant sequoia and coast redwood forests in California for more than a decade. In her role as Program Director she oversees Ancient Forest Society programs, collaborates on research and contributes to general operations. Her passion is making short films to educate and inspire others to appreciate the beauty of our diverse and interconnected planet.

Wendy is the Program Manager for Ancient Forest Society's seed collection program. She also contributes to Ancient Forest Society's research programs and general operations.

I'm now the Field Manager of the University of California Natural Reserve System Climate Monitoring Network. I ensure that we are collecting research grade climate data across our network of reserves.

As a member of the University of California Natural Reserve System (UCNRS) IT Team, I manage and maintain weather stations throughout the state. I help ensure that researchers have access to high-quality, reliable weather data across the state. Which means I get to visit spectacular natural reserves across the state!

Over the past seven years I've collaborated on the following projects with a diverse team of scientists:o Redwoods and Climate Change Initiative - assessing the impacts of climate change on coast redwoods and giant sequoias o Leaf to Landscape Project - studying the impact of California’s severe drought on giant sequoia trees and forestso Critical Zone Observatory at the Angelo Coast Range Reserve – understanding the interface between plants, the atmosphere, and the eartho Fern Watch – a Save the Redwoods League citizen science project tracking the health of sword ferns through out the coast redwood rangeo UC Natural Reserve System – providing researchers and reserve managers with reliable, high-quality weather dataAs a member of these projects, I was tasked with:o Making measurements and collecting samples in the forest canopy and on the forest flooro Processing plant, soil, and water samples employing a variety of analyseso Maintaining weather stations at 13 UC Natural Reserves and help with data managemento Maintaining a variety of datasets for multiple projects and carrying out preliminary data analysis and visualization and ensure data is available for other users o Writing informational updates and creating videos about research for public outreach o Performing lab management duties including: ordering supplies, tracking expenses, organizing lab supplies including chemicals and hazardous waste and being point of contact o Training undergraduates, graduates and visiting scientists to use scientific techniques o Participating in science outreach events, attending conferences and contributing to the preparation of scientific manuscripts, posters and progress reports

• Analyzed the environmental, social and governance (ESG) practices of major companies listed on the Australian Stock Exchange and component companies of Morgan Stanley Capital International World Index Asia to create sustainability profiles for the SIRIS database as well as three global databases operated by international partners• Supervised a team of research analysts to ensure final products were of the highest quality and delivered in a timely manner

• Conducted land/asset/livelihood baseline assessment in Senegal• Contributed to environmental impact assessments• Contributed to environmental and social management and monitoring plans• Used GIS mapping technology to create maps and digitize land uses• Helped develop business in the areas of aid and development• Worked with international clients located in Senegal, Thailand, and Lao PDR

• Developed a world map depicting the impacts of climate change on biodiversity and ecosystem services

• Coordinated research and performed experiments for graduate students and postdoctoral researchers assessing the health of freshwater, forest, and grassland ecosystems affected by invasive plants• Supervised and trained colleagues• Conducted individual research project on the allelopathy of garlic mustard
