After initial international research in the field of student misconceptions in mathematics I co-authored First Steps in Mathematics Resources (FSiM) and developed a Diagnostic Resource for Assessing Mathematics K-6 (DRAM). As a DRAM consultant I skill Primary and Middle Schools in implementing this diagnostic assessment to identify gaps in individual student's conceptual understanding, and gaps in classroom and whole school Mathematics programs. This enables schools to record the conceptual understanding of every student, and shows if they are either below, at or above the required standard for their year level. It also states what the student is able to learn next. This provides teachers with valid, specific, differentiated data for planning appropriate programs.

As Mathematics Curriculum Manager I mentored, providing strategic professional learning in the classroom context, guided teachers to implement the Australian Curriculum, raise the schooll NAPLAN standards well above the national average and develop and implement a Tutorial Program in place of a Support Program. Tutorials focused on concepts each student needed to develop to keep up with the regular class mathematics. Students remain part of the class but are tutored to reconstruct misconception or develop partial concepts. I developed the Diagnostic Assessment Resource for Assessing Mathematics to enable staff to establish and maintain a rich data banks showing every student's conceptual understandings throughout their Primary Years. DRAM then became a tool to enhance teacher's professional judgments and to provide clear learning objectives for differentiated engagement within lessons.

As a Research and Development Officer in the First Steps in Mathematics Project I worked under the supervision of Professor Sue Willis to gleaned' the field of research into 2-16 year olds learning mathematical concepts, pre and partial concepts but in particular misconceptions out of universities in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, NZ and France. I used the tasks and developed others for research in the diverse socio-economic, cultural and school sectors in Western Australia. The international findings were replicated in W.A. Prof. Willis guided the development of continua and wrote the FSiM Resources. My role was to co-author a Professional Development Resource to implement FSiM. work for Steps Professional Development (a company of Edith Cowan University) and wrote a Facilitator's Course for Australian and International training. I subsequently introduced FSiM in S.A., Canda and the UK. Following this I became a consultant to Pearson Education in Canada for further development of their resources and implementation of FSiM. My aim has always been to train succession teams to take over.
