I'm a Registered Landscape Architect and researcher with 17 years’ experience in professional practice. My project work ranges from large multi-disciplinary public space projects to innovative co-design projects with councils, schools and communities. I have worked closely with iwi and local and central government agencies throughout Aotearoa. Much of my work has involved identifying the cultural and historic significance of nationally significant places - I have written landscape conservation plans for some of Aotearoa’s most important landscapes.In 2018 I completed a PhD, where I identified the core attributes of design expertise in the context of public space design. I discovered that the best results occur when clients and communities are involved in the same creative, collaborative and mutual learning process as the designer. I have applied these insights to numerous public space projects and was a category winner in the 2022 NZILA Awards for Place Cadets, a project designing with children and youth.In 2020, I established Gather Foundation, a registered Charitable Trust that provides opportunities for tamariki and rangatahi to be meaningfully involved in the design of their outdoor environments. Through Gather Landscape Architecture, I design and deliver programmes for the Foundation, empowering Ōtatuahi tamariki and rangatahi to gain the confidence to become active citizens who feel they can affect positive change in their schools, neighbourhoods and communities.
