My professional career began as a Pre-K public school teacher for Hoke County schools upon graduating from UNCP in 2005. I took a leave of absence after my son was born but never returned to that role. I worked as a part-time Play Therapist (providing educational activities through play) for special needs children birth through age 3 and then as a and Service Coordinator writing IFSP's and IEP's, facilitating meetings, and making sure the children that I served received adequate services to meet their goals and objectives. I began homeschooling my son once he became school-aged. I have worked part-time in various areas to sustain the cost of homeschooling for my family. I have been an After School Care Coordinator, tutor, bus driver, cook, etc. I worked in Cumberland and Hoke county schools as a literacy tutor. I have tutored privately and even worked in sales over the years. In 2019, I began attending Culture Classes mainly to connect my son with his Culture and rich heritage and to learn all that we could. I wanted him to have experiences I never did. This was the start of a wonderful journey where I learned many new things, met new people, and grew spiritually and personally. This journey led me to seek relatives and elders who knew and remembered my maternal grandmother whom my mom and I never knew. I began volunteering and assisting in Culture Classes for the Coharie tribe (my people) and then led me to obtain my current position with the Indian Education program. In 2021, my son and I started our small business where we began making Native American jewelry, clothing, and crafts. We enjoy attending vendor shows meeting new people and networking. I enjoy learning and creating. I love my culture.
