I support the district ranger and all district staff in facing complex challenges arising from intense multiple uses of the landscape and interface with local governments and tribes to incorporate public interests in federal land management decision-making.

I support scientists in advocating, educating, and collaborating for integrated natural resource management solutions. Managing all aspects of a Soil Science program for a 1.7 million acre forest with high timber, recreation, and fire activity. Setting priorities, directing workloads, and offering mentoring for district soil scientists. Serving as team lead on Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) and fire resource advisory teams (REAF/READ). Collaborating with local academic institutions and the PNW Ecology Group on research to provide the best available science, technology, and future vision for the role of soils in sustainable forest management. Reviewing NEPA analyses for environmental assessments.

This was a temporary detail in which I learned to support a large, highly active ranger district during peak recreation and fire season. Leading all aspects of the soils program for two ranger districts on the Willamette National Forest.Maintaining partnerships with the Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS), Rocky Mountain Research Station, PNW Ecology Group, and the Regional Office. Facilitating win-win outcomes between multiple resources and standardized soil project design criteria from all four districts on the forest. Serving as Contracting Officer Representative (COR II) to hydrologically stabilize over 200 miles of roads. Performing NEPA analysis and reporting for all district projects.

Collaborating with multidisciplinary industry professionals through leveraging large datasets and predictive models to assess ecological change over time. Partners included the Nature Conservancy, Inter-America Development Bank, World Bank, Columbia University, the EPA, the Inter-America Biodiversity Network, and many others to populate an online database with over 10,000 GIS environmental datasets. Funding received: North Pacific LCC ($99,500) and Southern Rockies LCC ($200,000).
