British qualified CBT psychotherapist, member of the BABCP. I specialise in working with "expats" - clients that live outside their home country. I have a particular interest in this area because I have lived as an expat as a child and as an adult - in many countries from Europe, to the US, to Central Asia. Such clients present a wide variety of issues, but they all share the complication that they tend not to have the typical support system of friends, family, even medical support in their language, that they might have back home. This can add to the sense of isolation that many clients feel in combating their issues. I have experience treating clients for PTSD (and complex PTSD), anxiety/stress, depression (monopolar and bipolar), self harm, eating disorders, relationship therapy, gender dysphoria, addiction, suicidal behaviour, phobias, panic attacks, health anxiety, borderline personality disorders and substance misuse. Outside of my clinical work, I have a particular research interest in trauma suffered by journalists. It ties together my earlier career with my present career.

Development projects (post conflict resolution and media) based in Ukraine, Belarus, Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, & Tajikistan

Coordinator and Administrator of Monitoring Evaluation and Impact Assessment system for 4 year, 7 country development programme.Overseeing the development and maintenance of the whole MEIA system – from the point of the initial bid, through tender development through to project completion. I conducted biannual training session with local partners regarding the collection and use of data.Oversight of implementation and Administration of the Monitoring & Evaluation system.Writing the objectively verifiable indicators for all activities (with several thousand indicators written and monitored during the 4 year programme). Administration of the overall system included ensuring that all impact assessment tasks were satisfactorily carried out, data collected, systematized, analysed and accurately reported. I was also responsible for the monitoring and evaluation of websites and online social media to gauge general reach of online journals but also the level of audience interaction to various platforms within the programme. Analysis and Report Writing Responsible for the writing of the project bid and tender development for the monitoring and evaluation of more than 30 individual activities within this project. I also presented the results of the MEIA system to the stakeholders, e.g. the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, embassies, experts and international organisations, the project Advisory Board, the engaged IPs, so that the ‘lessons’ learned from the M&E were fed back into the Programme – during the Programme’s life time. I also provided monthly updates to the management agency/ team leader. KyrgyzstanI was visiting lecturer at the Kyrgyz-Uzbek University in Osh. I taught undergraduate courses on Democratisation and Civil Liberties, Open Media and training for journalists, Economic Transformation. I also worked with locally based international organisations on a number of collaborative projects to promote civic reform, human rights, gender rights and free media. This included fund raising, project oversight and management, evaluation, progress and financial reporting. In particular, I prepared joint conferences with the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), Renaissance Foundation, and the Sabre Institute, and published numerous articles analysing developments within the region (see list at end).

UzbekistanI assisted the Head of the Politics Department to design and organise the new International Relations Department within the National University of Uzbekistan. This included setting out the course curricula and assistance in training and evaluating new teaching faculty (including training both teachers and students on how to utilize the world wide web in their research) and departmental administration (to include participation of students in the decision-making processes). I interviewed candidates for positions, and judged applications for student projects and grant proposals with OSI/Soros Foundation. I collaborated on a multitude of outreach projects with the British Council, Higher Education Support Programme (HESP), OSCE, UN and Central Asian Resource Centre (CARC).

Kyiv, UkraineI taught course on the Legal Processes of Democratisation at the Institute for Law and Linguistics in Kyiv. This included lectures on best practices for Democratic Elections, legally defining the electoral process, and building a basic definition of what constituted free and fair elections, and the various forms that democratic elections can take. I designed and maintained the website for regional activities of the Civic Eduacation Project in Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova.Lviv, UkraineTeaching various courses at the L’viv National University, including: Using the internet for Social Science Research; International Political Economy; Economic Transformation in Central Europe - lessons for Ukraine; Policies and Institutions of the European Union. This course on the internet for Social Sciences included the design and publication of a web site, email based distance learning for students outside L’viv.
