My role within the Benefits team is primarily to manage the retirement programs for all employees of the district. This includes responsibility for the assessment of ASRS eligibility and enrollment in ASRS within Peoplesoft HCM/HRIS and ASRS systems, correction of errors (both through payroll adjustment processing and use of ASRS CNW application), Retiree Return to Work (processing of RTW submissions and management of ACR data), and all ASRS online applications outside of Payroll/contribution reporting. As a Benefits team member, I am the subject matter expert for ASRS and TSA 403(b) & 457(b) plans (both traditional and Roth). I answer questions and resolve issues about ASRS and retirement, from those just beginning their careers to those returning to work as retirees. I contribute to Benefits team projects and activities, some of which include annual open enrollment webinars, materials, and Benefit Expo events, providing support to employees through Benefits email and help desk systems, and participation in both team and organizational goals. In collaboration with the Maricopa Community Colleges Retirees’ Association (Maricopa Gold), ASRS, Social Security Administration, Medicare and financial planning partners, I coordinate education of employees on retirement programs and preparation for retirement.

Daily I communicate with employers through various media, assess employer training needs, and provide information and problem solving for benefits, human resources, payroll, and administrative managers and staff of ASRS employers. My primary role is to serve as an information resource and liaison between employers and the ASRS. This means I am continuously reading, interpreting, applying and summarizing statutes, rules, policies and procedures for a diverse group of public employers.My small team and I present an annual training in early fall to keep participating employers up to date on changes that affect them. From graphic design to writing and editing, I have produced promotional materials, onscreen presentations, accompanying print materials, webinars, and managed the scheduling and email systems for these Employer Conferences. I’ve done the same for the ASRS Basics for Employers, which we present throughout the year.The ASRS launched a complete redesign of its public website in 2014. I served on the website steering committee during the development and implementation of the new design. Today I assist in management of content for the Employers section of the site, represent my department in the production support business users group and manage changes and improvements to the secure employer website, where employer online applications are housed.As the ASRS has released and enhanced employer online applications, I have written and edited user guides for those applications and coordinated posting of the guides and their video adaptations on the ASRS website. Additionally, I oversee and edit all updates to the ASRS Employer Manual, a comprehensive guide for personnel of participating employers.On a quarterly basis I write content for and edit the Employer Update. I am known as a consistent proofreader and editor for my team and others at the agency.

At the time I began working for the agency, there was one Public Information Officer position and it became vacant. My skills and abilities were closely matched to that position, so my supervisor agreed to allow me to pitch in until the position was filled nearly two years later. Working closely with our Chief Financial Officer I designed, edited, and produced the 2005 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report. I also worked with the External Affairs Division to thoroughly redesign and publish the 2005 ASRS Employer Manual and the Spring 2006 issue of Financial Horizons, a print news publication which is mailed to all ASRS members.On a frequent basis I performed research, data collection and analysis, primarily for the preparation of monthly performance reports on agency operations for the executive management team and the ASRS Board of Trustees. I also gathered data for the participation in an annual peer benchmarking study and analyzed results to help implement best practices developed by peer public retirement systems. Annually, I assisted the Administrative Services Division with the agency’s annual budget submission by writing justification for the agency’s requests and submitting data.One of my biggest accomplishments in this position was bringing the monthly customer satisfaction survey process inhouse. I created the graphic designs used on all surveys and managed the wording of the survey questions, statistical sampling, and reporting of results to provide relevant performance feedback to the managers of surveyed functions.Collaborating with managers of various service functions within the agency, I assisted in the development of strategic goals and objectives. At regular intervals I worked with staff and management of each division to assess progress toward strategic plan objectives. I facilitated updates and revisions to the strategic plan and both created and presented informational training on the agency’s strategic plan for new hire orientation.

Cox Media is the advertising sales division of Cox Communications. My responsibilities as a Research Specialist were chiefly geared toward conducting market research using Nielsen and Scarborough software products, analyzing the data, and using it to produce tools that sales staff used to market advertising on cable television networks. These tools included standalone marketing flyers and customized PowerPoint sales proposals.My most significant project in this role was the transition to Strata VIEW32, a media sales research software, which was an important tool used by all sales and sales support staff on a daily basis. In managing this project I took on the responsibilities of learning how to use the product, understanding our technical setup and needs, troubleshooting technical issues, performing ongoing maintenance of the data used in the software, and presenting initial and continuing training for both individuals and groups in all four Arizona Cox Media offices. Collaboration with our IT staff and Strata’s helpdesk staff was key to my project’s success.Because there was no instructional documentation provided by Strata, I authored customized user manuals for each office. I developed condensed “Quick Strata Tip” documents to address specific questions and training needs in our fast-paced sales environment, several of which were republished by Strata in its own client newsletter. In 2004, Strata held its first Strata Cable Research Advisory Panel, and Cox Media selected me to represent the research staff of all nationwide Cox Media markets on this panel.

In this role I supported a team of nine Account Executives by building client orders for advertising on Cox Communications cable networks and managing all administrative tasks for the team. I coordinated with staff in other departments of the business to ensure client order fulfillment.A significant part of my work here included working with PowerPoint to develop engaging sales proposals for my Account Executives that were tailored to their clients. This involved collaboration with the Research department to ensure client campaigns reached appropriate audiences.

In this department I entered client orders into the traffic and billing system and maintained and reconciled monthly sales projections.In addition, I compiled and developed the department’s first procedure and training manual, and created and delivered presentations to educate sales and support staff about changes in the business.
