My time at Verdantas included updating, preparing, and assembling landfill permitting reports and documentation (SWPPP, SPCC), preparing budget breakdowns and tracking, processing geotechnical data, researching cost estimates as well as best practices for new types of projects, preparing training materials, processing lab and field data as well as field reports, assisting in field testing, and a wide variety of QA/QC.

Worked as a part-time researcher with two different professors in the College of Engineering: With Dr. Defne Apul on the City of Toledo’s Trash Free Waterways project and assisting Dr. Eddie Chou in developing a Python-based, machine learning program to aid ODOT in determining traffic rates via footage already being captured of state-owned highways.For the Trash Free Waterways project, duties included meeting with City representatives to coordinate data and resources as well as maintaining project communications, providing feedback to the project from the hands-on perspective, recording and securing data while participating in sorting events, and securing necessary project equipment. This project also involved submission of a conference proposal and presentation to the Cleveland State of Lake Erie conference in 2022. While working with Dr. Chou, my role was taking the bare bones, front end user interface and developing it into a user friendly form that aligned more closely with ODOT standards and was explicitly able to handle multiple video inputs in a single session. This required learning a new coding language (Python), learning numerous Python dependencies, running multiple sandboxes, streamlining and unifying existing code where possible, and creating graphics, which included preparing layered graphic files via Adobe Illustrator for packaging so they could be re-used later as needed by the client.

Learned and applied a wide variety of hardware and software to a host of different projects including editing existing plans for an 8-mile sewer project, updating alignments, conducting corridor assessments, maintaining flow meters, cataloging sewer system data points, preparing scoping documentation, and analyzing and updating cost estimations. Projects were primarily storm and sanitary sewer focused, but I also had the opportunity to evaluate, clarify, and correct data and execution of a GIS-based routing system for emergency fire response crews.

Led a 9-person team in preparing and presenting a proposal to restore a heavily degraded section of waterway within a budget of $1 million under the auspices of Hull & Associates (now part of Verdantas) and The University of Toledo.

Executed every aspect of an international and domestic antiques business with both online and in-person sales, including developing and maintaining networks of buyers and sellers with private and commercial clients, recruiting and managing temporary workers for large buying events, and developing and maintaining systems for inventory management, specialized accounting needs, and shipping large and/or fragile items across the country or overseas.

Worked with a fully remote team to build, maintain, and later update a Drupal 6.x/7.x based website (transformativeworks.org) with an emphasis on usability and accessibility including internationally localized views and content translation. Committee responsibilities also included developing, executing, and documenting software integrations and processes for OTW membership, Board member elections, and bi-annual donation drives.

As Committee Chair, managed a fully remote team through ongoing maintenance and multiple simultaneous projects including the majority of a transition to Drupal 7.x, the final development of site and software integrations for Open Doors (an archive rescue project of the OTW), and donation drives yielding a 38% increase in annual donations. Other responsibilities included Assigning and monitoring the progress of projects and tasks, serving as a liaison between team and the Board of Directors, and evaluating applications and offering roles to potential new staff.

Designed, prepared, and presented educational presentations for all ages, in a variety of settings including classrooms, festivals, and private groups. Communicated with local government, businesses, and the general public regarding new and ongoing initiatives, solid waste management resources, and related regulations. Led tours of recycling facilities, county landfill, and local wind turbines. Designed promotional materials and ad campaigns to further department priorities. Updated and modernized department website with an emphasis on accessibility and ease of use.

Patrolled Watershed properties and evaluated situations for emergency response. Also served as Division of Water technician by taking regular equipment readings at dam control and remote stations and by obtaining and transferring water samples as needed.
