Her belief in inspiring life-long learning in her students has ensured that she too keeps learning, she has earned various credits learning about technology and teaching pedagogy. Her learning has taken her to various digital learning platforms, using collaborative video feeds, whiteboards and other digital sharing tools. She is self-taught in many of the digital tools, but has also learned along with her students, learning together how to harness the power of technology for the classroom.She has been implementing technology to enhance student learning since her first day of class, using a classroom website to support her students that included course content, notes, rubrics and exemplars. Back then, websites were created through Dreamweaver, not the easy drag and drop sites of today. She has developed expertise in many areas of technology since then, even starting up the Media Arts program in her high school, which allows students to create film, learn graphic design and publish both printed and digital work to be shared with the community. Vimeo hosts the over 1,000 student films that the Media Arts students have produced, some of which are showcased during the Film Festival that she organizes every year, where local film industry professionals hand out Oscars to the best films of that year. Teaching both blended and online courses for over seven years has given her some expertise in the use of D2L, the platform of choice for Ontario teachers. She knows that effective teachers are always innovating and evolving to meet the needs of their students and are sensitive to the various ways that students learn, ensuring that students have multiple ways that they can demonstrate their learning. These teachers use collaborative inquiry to keep their students intellectually engaged in investigating global issues and finding solutions using research and exploration.
