I am a former pastry chef who transitioned into web development (with a primary focus on Ruby on Rails) a couple of years ago. A lot changed between the two jobs, but some of the skills I used to deliver beautiful and delicious desserts to my customers have remained relevant: attention to detail, intense focus on the customer's experience, and the enthusiasm to keep learning and try new things. I am passionate about continuous education and self-motivated to seek new challenges, whether it be delving deeper into a technology I am familiar with or learning something new on the fly.My main focus as a developer is on communication and empathy. I have learned time and again that nothing is more important than walking that extra mile in somebody else's shoes - users, clients, co-workers, mentees, and mentors alike. The process of striving for clarity and understanding is how I keep track of what I know and what I don't know, and informs a large part of my day-to-day work and lifestyle.My primary experience is with Ruby on Rails and Javascript (primarily on its own or with AngularJS). I have both volunteered for and organized Railsbridge training workshops and continue to seek out ways to teach what I know, learn more about what I don't, and share my enthusiasm and passion for this work with my community.
