I oversee the schedules for Storymix projects, and also contribute creatively as and when needed.

Since starting my freelance career in January 2023, I’ve completed editing and proofreading work for independent writers, Hodder Headline, Puffin Books, Abrams Books, Faber Children’s, the Quarto Group, Hot Key Books, Transworld, Penguin Viking and Hachette Children's Books.

I oversaw the schedules for the fiction list, working closely with the editors, designers and production controller. I copy-edited and proofread titles, and oversaw the freelance copy-editing and proofreading, too. In addition, I mentored the junior editors in the development of the editorial skills. I'm proud to have worked with brilliant authors such as Liz Pichon, Philip Reeve, Ian Livingstone, Sarah Bowie, Sue Wallman and Laura Wood (among others!).

Working in a team of four, I managed the editorial process for children’s fiction and non-fiction titles, working with freelance copyeditors and proofreaders, and I liaised directly with authors. I also maintained the house style document and other process documentation, and trained junior team-mates in the principles of house style and the editorial process. I've worked with many authors (including Emily Barr, Malorie Blackman, Eoin Colfer, Tom Fletcher, Adam Kay, Katie Kirby, Jill Murphy, David O’Doherty and Daisy Upton) and on books by Philip Pullman, Jeff Kinney, Rick Riordan and Roald Dahl. More recently, I've been a guest lecturer for publishing courses at Falmouth University, Bath Spa University, University of Glasgow and University City London.

Structurally edit and prepare manuscripts for editorial and design handovers, liaising closely with the Managing Editor, Design Manager and Production Manager. I juggle busy workloads and work to close deadlines.Confident in using InDesign to discuss design needs for books.Currently working on a cross-curricular multimedia project for interactive whiteboards. This requires a lot of creative thinking in developing interactive resources for the primary classroom. I work closely with designers to brief and check the resources and to brief illustrations, videos, audio clips, and Flash files. Managed and selected resources for multimedia projects in geography and religious education, which involved liaising with design resource staff, briefing video and audio clips, attending photo shoots, sending files to the CD developer, and keeping within an assigned budget.Implemented system using an Excel workbook to keep track of the publishing programme. Trained in all aspects of the production process, from editing to pre-press. Used Quark Xpress to lay out a variety of formats with integrated illustrations, as well as Adobe Photoshop to resample and clean up images.Prepared manuscripts and photographic material for editing and design, ensuring that everything met quality standards.Oversaw the Transport & Industry and Sports lists, since May and November 2003 respectively, and worked closely with the publishers, production editors and designers. Both lists produced 50 titles a year.Commissioned a range of titles for the Transport & Industry list.Provide guidance and support to authors, and prepared material for authors prior to submitting manuscripts.Maintained a tracking system based on an Excel spreadsheet to monitor the progress of titles in the Transport & Industry and Sports lists, from proposal to pre-press stage. Trained members of staff to implement a similar system.

I worked on pre-1800 printed material to be added to the British Library's collections as part of the English Antiquarian Backlog Cataloguing Project.
