I am involved in the processing of data from various sources into the system making use of Java. My current position allow me to become familiar with web scraping and work towards becoming a search expert.

Both products made use of Microsoft products and cloud solutions.I was in the Java team maintaining back and front end systems for Rabobank investments.

My daily job entailed taking what is communicated from a Business Analyst or client, analyze the requirements, design a solution producing a specification which act as a legal document between client and development house, delegate work to developers, integrate the solution and hand over to QA. I got to create proof of concepts, play with ideas and lock heads with various people in the development process toward delivering a feature from conception to production.

Got experience with big data, sqlserver, .net 4.5, WCF, TPL Dataflow, MSMQ, new patterns like pipelines, circuitbreakers, etc. Loved working in a very high volume system where efficient code is paramount and where a single millisecond can add hours to execution time.

Worked as a Senior JAVA Developer at PayU, the company that process 60% of South Africa’s online payments. As a development team lead my responsibilities include leading other developers toward delivering high quality solutions from start to finish, to engage with other team leads designing new solutions, introduce better methodologies and pushing the use of scalable software components in a Service Oriented Architecture. My goal is to introduce a stable Enterprise Service Bus in an environment where there was only one big web application before. I am making good progress and have introduced 6 services thus far with a custom designed configuration service making use of trees to store service instance configuration. In my time at PayU I have had the opportunity to further develop my software development knowledge, my analytical business analysis skills and had the privilege to lead a team.

I used to be a .NET C# and JAVA Developer at Altech Isis, the company responsible for Vodacom’s (a Vodafone South African cellphone company) subscriber Database, and core functionality around it. For 3 years I worked in the backend team implementing and maintaining a very large Service Oriented Architecture (+- 150 separate services). This included corba services, telnet services, and SOAP web services toward a custom made Enterprise Service Bus. The 2.5 years before that I worked part of the automation team. We started off with front end automation using Compuware TestPartner and ended with a custom made C# automation program tailor made for Isis automation needs. It turned out a great success and is still being used extensively today with thousands of tests ran daily. I left this large company after almost 6 years looking for more responsibility and green field development to broaden my skills.

The first occupation I had was as an apprentice Turner Machinest for 4 years at Algoa Oil and Pipe Services where I obtained much experience on various milling, turning, drilling, gear shaping and other machines. I worked long hours, and learned to work under pressure in a production driven environment with time deadlines. I learned to work with my superiors and co-workers to constructively solve a problem no matter how challenging, optimizing the result as best possible. During this time as a young adult I gain some perspective and decided where I want to go in life. I saved up money to go study and work towards a career in the IT industry. I do not regard this time as a waste of time as I gained much of life experience here.(1997 - 2000)
