The Duties and responsibilities I were tasked with, included the following: Supply of plant support through performing technical studies and continuous improvement surveys.• Performing Conceptual, basic and detail engineering process designs for project proposals and scoping. • Project and Contractor Management for CAPEX, OPEX, Plant requirement projects. • Technical scoping for procurement of services and/or equipment at the Gas treatment plant and Laboratory. • Root Cause Analysis studies on plant failures for continuous improvement. • Administration of the Coke Plant Risk Rating System. • Environmental Representative for Coke Making Section. • Coke Plant responsible person for Fatality Prevention Standard implementation: Confined Spaces and Gas Hazardous Areas - Gas Treatment Plant. • Support function as technical liaison to external departments, for integration projects.

I was tasked with performing engineering calculations and proposals for Conceptual-, Basic- and Extended Basic Engineering Packages. Calculations included: Piping hydraulic studies. Process equipment checking and sizing. •Conceptual Engineering projects included: Hydraulic study and rating of existing compressors for re-use at Sasol, Sasolburg plant.•Basic Engineering projects: Benzene reduction project, Sasol Secunda plant. Performed a mass balance over several units for Sasol Synfuels auditing purposes.•Extended Basic Engineering projects: Design of a permanent Naphtha injection system to reduce fouling in gas heat exchangers. •Performing re-rate studies and calculations for the heat exchangers and columns at the Synthol Light Oil fractionation as part of the Conceptual Engineering study for the capacity expansion of the Unit.•Compiling engineering documentation which included specifying process equipment datasheets, Request for Quotations (RFQ’s), Bill of Quantities (BOQ’s). Creating and updating Process Flow Diagrams (PFD’s) and Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P & ID’s/ MFD’s).•Information gathering and data processing. •As building of Process Flow Diagrams and Mechanical Flow Diagrams for units in Sasol, Secunda.
