We're capturing data that describes how surgery is performed. We use it to gather insights on what the care team requires for a successful surgery. These insights allow us to better manage surgical resources for a safer and more efficient surgery.

Working to build a company that can develop and translate technology from the research environment to fulfill DoD needs in healthcare with dual public benefit. The inaugural effort is focused on introducing a platform device to enable endoscopic neurosurgery.

Was the first graduate student under the direction of Dr. Patrick Codd, instrumental in the creation of the Duke University Brain Tool Laboratory. Proposed and implemented research programs - most notably an automated tumor resection device - designed, built, calibrated, tested.Led laboratory development efforts including student recruitment, market analysis, developing internal and external collaborations, courting potential donors, and website design and branding. Conceptualized and authored three grant proposals including a $2 million submission to the NSF.

Due to a strong background in physics, I was hired as a mechanical engineer in a group of electrical and computer engineers. My broad impacts came as a result of my ability to communicate, learn, and adapt. By my third and final year, I had developed a range of skills from mechanical design to rapid prototyping, circuit design and PCB layout, data analysis, and experimentation for laser-tissue interaction. I specialized in solving difficult hardware problems within short timeframes. In my final year I contributed to 9 different projects, the most notable include the development of electromechanical systems and the mechanical design for a folding microUAV and the co-invention of an innovative device for surgically treating spinal stenosis – a project which would propel me to the next stage in my career.

I gained practical experience involving metrology, calibration, and measurement equipment. I developed an analytic mindset used to investigate out-of-tolerance gauge calibrations and gained an understanding of the teamwork necessary to support inter-departmental cooperation within a large company.

I failed my first physics exam under Dr. Knutson. This became a transformative learning experience, motivating me to develop the analytic mind characteristic of a successful physicist. I went on to ace the final and consequently earn a spot in Dr. Knutson's research lab. In this position, I was given the freedom to pursue my own solutions to a large variety of physical problems which assisted in the construction of a superconducting beta spectrometer applied to the Boron-8 beta spectrum.
