Graphic Orb specializes in motion picture print advertising. I joined the company just as the Mac was developing into the indispensable desktop publishing tool.Prepress Development:I pioneered prepress and file processing techniques which catapulted Graphic Orb into the digital age. By developing techniques and processes in Quark Express and Photoshop Graphic Orb became the first company to generate the first fully digital black and white ads for the the Los Angeles Times and New York Times followed by the first digital color ads a few years later.Inkjet Printer ImplementationsFor the purpose of grayscale and color-matching both on standard magazine stocks and "almost impossible to predict" newsprint I customized and implemented systems to efficiently match any media for proofing purposes.Screen Sharing and Live ConferencingIn a pre-internet digital age I focused my efforts in screen sharing methods by deploying Sun Microsystems Unix workstations at client sites as a full color "instant" replacement to fax and messenger services. As the Mac systems became more sophisticated I migrated the screen sharing capability to "live" systems where clients viewed work "on the fly".Software DevelopmentI was responsible for the development and implementation of database driven automation systems. These systems include pre-internet digital transmission and distribution of print files, daily updating of print campaigns and "self-serve" file pickup systems.As most of the systems I worked on at the time are now obsolete - including film imagesetting, typesetting systems, film and digital color proofing are now obsolete - I will just say it was amazing and fun to pioneer the process!
