The 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team Executive Officer (XO) is the brigade commander's principal staff officer and serves as the Chief of Staff for the Joint Multinational Training Group - Ukraine headquarters while deployed to Grafenwohr Training Area, Germany. The XO's responsibilities include coordinating and directing the work of the staff, and establishing and monitoring the brigade's battle rhythm, including synchronizing it with higher headquarters, adjacent units and partner agencies, and the demands of subordinate units, in order to ensure effective planning, support, and decision making throughout all operations. The XO supervises the sustainment and maintenance capabilities and outcomes of the brigade, and represents the brigade commander as authorized.

Commander of the 239th Brigade Engineer Battalion (BEB) within the 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team (IBCT). The Commander is responsible for everything the BEB does and fails to do. The BEB is the most complex battalion within the IBCT and includes six companies: Higher Headquarters Company, Forward Support Company, two Engineer Companies, a Signal Company, and a Military Intelligence Company, totaling over 600 Soldiers. The Commander provides purpose, direction, and motivation to accomplish each mission through personal oversight and presence during operations. The Commander is responsible for the training, manning, and logistical readiness of the BEB to ensure engineer and enabling support is provided to the IBCT.

The 239th Brigade Engineer Battalion Operations Officer (S3) is responsible for synchronizing battalion, company, and platoon tasks against time and resources. The S3 is responsible for preparing, publishing, and distributing command orders and standard operating procedures. The S3 reviews and coordinates subordinate plans and actions. The S3 assists the Battalion Commander directly by recommending priorities for allocating critical resources and supporting adjacent elements. The S3 coordinates and controls the brigade's rear area security.

Responsible for civil-military and engineering support occurring within the 39th Infantry Brigade Combat Team's area of operations. Develop and manage relationships in support of military operations that interact with the civilian populace; serve as the principal advisor for engineering to the brigade commander. Serve as key member of staff working groups to advise on civilian counterpart engagement and engineering capabilities and techniques. Lead and manage both the civil affairs and engineering staff personnel, and mentor and coach subordinates in their own personal and professional development.

Serve as the primary personnel staff officer for a battalion with a statewide footprint and roster of over 500 Soldiers. Principal advisor to the battalion commander for all matters concerning human resource management. Forecast personnel status, manage individual and collective readiness, and provide replacements in support of the battalion's mission both at home and while deployed. Oversee the processing and tracking of all personnel actions including health care, professional evaluations, promotions, awards, suspension of favorable actions, and pay. Develop policy and guidance for the personnel section. Plan, direct, and manage performance of the section staff, and mentor and coach subordinates in their own personal and professional development.

Deputy director for a municipal department of five staff with a $350,000 budget in a growing city of 63,000 residents. Responsible for assisting in the development of policy, projects, and programs as they relate to water and land use, urban design, public utilities, community facilities, housing, and transportation. Ensure proper communication and coordination across a multitude of municipal, non-profit, institutional, and private partners during all department activities. Work closely with private sector developers and design professionals to prepare, review, and approve architectural and engineered drawings for compliance with applicable regulations, laws, and industry best practices. Manage and coordinate current planning cases and developments, and review subdivision plats when required. Identify, apply for, and manage public and private grants supporting the goals of city projects and programs. Provide assistance to the public with city council, planning commission, and numerous other boards' and committees' agendas and actions. Cultivate and manage strong local relationships on behalf of the department.

Review complex development requests for compliance with applicable ordinances and regulations. Prepare oral, narrative and graphic reports and makes recommendations on project plans and development requests. Provide local officials, developers, engineers and others with information and recommendations regarding comprehensive plans, zoning ordinances, subdivision regulations and other ordinance requirements, and their application to specific development proposals. Draft and propose ordinances and ordinance revisions. Assist in the design of and implements planning projects, such as land use surveys, and other projects. Analyze, inspect, and make recommendations relative to existing and proposed planning projects. Participate in the development of comprehensive plans and their implementation through the zoning ordinances, subdivision regulations and other regulations and plans. Write and submits grant applications, as well as managing and monitoring grant programs to insure compliance with all applicable federal, state and local requirements.

Taught graduate-level college courses. Prepared all coursework by developing curriculum, creating a syllabus, and identifying necessary course materials. Made a point to thoroughly understand multiple instructional methodologies, then apply them appropriately in the classroom. Supported student learning though innovation and personalized instruction. Maintained availability to students and colleagues. Kept appropriate records of student attendance and grades, and submitted them timely to department head at the conclusion of each semester. Attended training, departmental meetings and evaluations, as required.

Supported the battalion operations officer in planning and executing the activities of an engineer battalion which totaled over 1,300 Solders in four states. Advised the battalion commander on matters pertaining to movement, training, and operations. Made informed recommendations on prioritizing assignments and equipment allocations. Coordinated with other staff sections, subordinate companies, and sister battalions to guarantee resources were sufficient to accomplish all missions. Prepared, drafted, and published operations orders, and maintained tasking and oversight authority battalion-wide to guarantee command directives were met. Ensured all readiness goals were accomplished by planning and conducting thorough training evaluations of subordinate units throughout the battalion.

Commander of a modular combat engineer company with five subordinate platoons. Provided direct leadership and management to 154 personnel. Governed accountability and maintenance for $26 million worth of vehicles and equipment through a rigorously enforced supply discipline program. Responsible for providing engineering support to battalion, brigade and division-level areas of operation, and for ensuring that the company staff and subordinate sections were properly trained to conduct all essential and implied tasks in high-stress, austere combat environments. Provided command directives and oversight to ensure all personnel management, logistical support, maintenance, and training requirements were met. Established command policies consistent with higher headquarter goals and directives. Took personal interest in the morale and welfare of every Soldier and their family.

Platoon Leader of a combat engineer platoon consisting of 28 Soldiers. Lead more than 200 counter-explosive-hazard patrols covering 7,500 miles of supply routes throughout greater Baghdad. Provided the discovery, destruction, and forensic exploitation of roadside IEDs, saving countless military lives, and directly contributing to the general security and freedom for the local populace. Responsible for the accountability and welfare of all platoon personnel; over $18 million worth of vehicles, weapons, and equipment; the tracking of individual and collective movements; mission execution and success; command and control of subordinates during combat operations; and, for remaining alert and making timely adjustments as required by a constantly changing battlefield environment. Ensured mission success through personal presence, observation, and supervision, and provided purpose, direction, and motivation to the Soldiers of the platoon, assisting each with developing themselves personally and professionally.
