Ceo - Lead Designer

Prestige Clothing Company

Kitchener, Canada Area

I have always had a passion for entrepreneurship. In the first year of my marketing diploma, I had an opportunity to run my own business. The City of Kitchener had a program called the Summer Company program, which gave applicants a $3000.00 grant towards running their own company. The application required a detailed business plan including a budget of how you would spend the $3000.00. At the time, I had no idea how to create t-shirt designs although, I knew it was something that I could learn because I had a passion for it. Once I got approved to be a part of the Summer Company program, I began watching YouTube videos on creating vector images on Adobe Illustrator. I spent 40 hours or more per week creating designs and teaching myself about all of Adobe's offerings. After a month of creating t-shirt designs and mock-ups, I decided to commit to one design and print 13 t-shirts as a sample size. I ended up selling all 13 t-shirts before I had them printed, so I printed 40 more of two other designs. I ran a tradeshow where I promoted my brand and sold some t-shirts. I grew the Twitter account to 1000 organic followers and created a Squarespace website that worked with online ordering. Once the summer was over, I decided to focus on school and end my business as I did not have the income or the time to focus on it in the final year of my diploma. I managed to break even on the $3000.00 grant, which was a great accomplishment for me. This experience taught me how to channel my ambition and work towards set goals. Skills learned & used:-Brand Development on all Social Media Platforms.-Managing an e-commerce website-Search engine optimization-Created paid social media ads -Created paid Adwords Campaigns-Adobe Illustrator-B2C Sales-Budgeting-SMART Goal Setting-Marketing plans
