As MD of Number 8 Events I partner with event organisers to provide safety solutions for various sized events, large and small. Large public events such as festivals, concerts and experiential marketing activity with global brands are my specialisation.Recently I’ve helped Nike, Underarmour and Harribo and festivals including Parklife, and venuesincluding Printworks, Greenwich Peninsula and Kings Cross Estates with theirevent safety strategy, planning, risk assessments and event equipment hire.With around 25 years’ experience in event safety and crowd management I’ve worked on thousands of client projects, from small one-off to huge multi-event tours and locations. The Covid lockdown was a challenging time for the events sector, and for my fledgling business. By utilising existing clients and diversifying our services I was able to create new opportunities for my business and team and provide much needed emergency facilities for the NHS. Number 8 Events is very proud to have supported the UK at this time of crisis by delivering vaccination centres, testing centres and mortuaries. Clients were amazed that we had the ability to go live within days and delivered every time! This enabled our revenue to increase 3x. And, more importantly, we were able to retain staff and provide temporary employment for some 350 people from the event industry.I have an extensive network of contacts in the events industry, including event focused marketing agencies, local authorities and various key suppliers. I’m grateful that all our business comes from existing clients or through referral, or from enquiries based on reputation.I have a passion for helping people to develop. In a work context I’ve recruited event managers and retrained them as safety advisors, helping them to gain their NEBOSH qualifications. On a personal level, I coach a youth rugby team, helping these young men develop their personal skills.I relish projects that are a challenge. Rarely is something completely innovative.
