I managed all aspects of the companies IT infrastructure and software development.

At Napthens I was taken on board to head up all the internal software development and management. This ranged from off the shelf CMS systems and legal case management systems to bespoke internal software applications. I was responsible for introducing a management information and reporting system that was available to all staff to help them monitor their performance and reach targets. The company was going through massive change in its IT infrastructure and due to my technical experience I was able to offer support and advice throughout this time of change. I was given project management responsibility which included organising the implementation of a new company website. During the final 6 months I worked in more of a systems administrator role working alongside the IT Manager to implement a number of large IT Projects, including a brand new Cisco network infrastructure between our 4 offices, a Cisco IP Phone roll out across the firm with IPFX presence management software and new Canon multi-function devices across all sites with secure follow me printing.

At HSB I was a team leader responsible for developing and designing internal software systems. The company used a system written in an environment called Informix. Support for this had stopped and it was being replaced with a Microsoft solution in .Net. My main role was managing the design and development of the new .NET system using my knowledge and experience of the software design lifecycle. This also involved the configuration of numerous servers including Microsoft SQL Server and the implementation of Coding Standards, and best practice documents for the rest of the development team. I was also responsible for putting together an introduction to the C# programming language and provided training, knowledge and support to my colleagues as they migrated from Informix to C# and .NET.

I worked within a team developing and designing new software. The company’s primary role was to develop a large Print MIS, however they were beginning to diversify their projects and were seeking to expand into new areas. The projects I designed and developed included: a delivery tracking system, using a GPS enabled phone to send location data and delivery information via GPRS to a web service running at our head office, and an internal stock tracking service, using handheld barcode scanning devices connecting wirelessly to a SQL server back end. I also developed an image previewing module for part of the print software. This had to take hex-encoded image data consisting of individual colour separations, drawing each separately, and combine them into a complete colour image. All of these applications I designed using UML, and using iterative modular testing while writing (NUnit / Whitebox testing). These were developed using strong OOP methodologies where interfaces were used to maintain the underlying framework. They were written in C# using Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 and a Microsoft SQL Server database.

I developed a number of Internal Software systems including a large workflow system for the company. The tools I used ranged from PHP and MySQL to C#.NET and Microsoft SQL, this included web based development and windows forms. All projects were developed using a full software lifecycle approach (Rational Unified Process). Most of the development work was done alone, but some of the projects were developed in a small development team. I was also responsible for updating and maintaining the company website. Other duties involved the management of the Microsoft SQL Server.

I started work at Torotrak as a desktop support engineer on a network of 100 computers, mostly running Microsoft Windows. After 12 months I began to manage the servers, this included Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Exchange server, and a number of Unix servers running a variety of services and applications (HTTP, HTTP Proxy, SMTP, and FTP). During my time in the IT Department I developed my programming skills and introduced a company Intranet using ASP and SQL. This included an online ISO 9000 quality system, a support call logging database, an electronic appraisal system, an engineering change control system, and numerous dynamic notice boards and news pages.
