Direct operations, supply chain and equipment service activities for the Arthroscopic Equipment platform, including a manufacturing operation in Nice, France. Technologies include electromechanical equipment and disposables for arthroscopic fluid management and RF ablation/coagulation. Led due diligence and integration planning & management activities across all business functions for the acquisition of a European arthroscopic fluid management company. Developed a global supply chain strategy for the new business and scaled up operations to support an increase in sales from $28MM to $53MM in 3 years. Created a new global service and repair strategy, establishing 11 service centers around the world.

Led Manufacturing Project Engineering, partnering with R&D and Marketing to develop and launch new sports medicine implant products. Established ongoing cost improvement programs. Led production transfer projects to Neuchatel, Switzerland and Raynham, MA.

Led manufacturing engineering, packaging engineering, facilities and maintenance, safety and environmental, tool design and build, custom product operations and SIS (Small Intestinal Submucosa) operations in the 425,000 square foot Warsaw, IN World Headquarters facility for DePuy. Nine direct reports, led total headcount of 102. Directed process development and optimization of new/improved products within the hip, knee and extremity market segments. Operations supported include machining, grinding, polishing, porous coating, cleaning and packaging. Implemented cost improvement. Established an Automation Implementation Plan for the site. Controlled budgets for departmental expenses ($17MM/Yr) and Warsaw operations capital ($14MM/Yr). Led design and construction of new SIS production facility to scale up from pilot production to full production. Developed and implemented a strategy for seven work cells, using lean manufacturing principles to improve efficiency and quality, and to reduce lead times. Led a team to develop a new automated process for grinding and polishing hip femoral stems. The process was successfully implemented and a process patent was granted. Initiated a Maintenance Excellence program at the Warsaw site to manage costs more effectively and improve customer service in the facilities/maintenance organization. Also initiated numerous other safety, security, environmental and cost improvement projects to bring the Warsaw operation up to J&J standards. Completed Process Excellence (six sigma) Black Belt training. Also served on the Design Excellence Leadership Team with Product Development Engineering and Marketing.

Managed the manufacturing engineering, facilities and maintenance, and Codman production business units within the New Bedford, MA facility. Also responsible for product design activities for mature Codman neuro/spinal and hand-held instrument product lines.

Directed the activities of this department, which was responsible for working directly with the Product Development and Marketing groups to bring new products to market. Enabled the manufacture of new hip and knee products by coordinating with in-house production personnel and outside vendors. Provided technical expertise and support to production operations, including machining, metal and chemical finishing, porous coating and outside vendors for casting and forging operations.

Directed the activities of the Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Tool Engineering, and Tool & Die departments of this manufacturer of total joint implants, surgical instruments and plastic surgery devices. Managed 37 engineers, technicians and toolmakers. Provided technical support to production operations, including machining, metal and chemical finishing, and an investment casting foundry.
