Optical Physicist working in Photonics and EO Systems group.Member of Photonics and Electro Optics group.Responsibilities include:• Working with customers and suppliers to develop:o Silica and Plastic Optical Fibre communication system components and networks for a wide range of military environments, including Optical Gigabit Ethernet.o Harsh environment compatible components.o Low Bandwidth Optical components for integration of legacy equipment.o Structural Health Monitoring and impact detection systems for military aircraft.o High power RF DEW systems• Designing and constructing electronic interfaces and control circuits, including PCBs.• Developing instrument control, test, data acquisition and modelling software, primarily with LabVIEW and Matlab, including FPGA systems for data acquisition and manipulation.• Planning, managing, developing, and providing demonstrations to customers, partners and general public.• Literature and commercial product surveys.• Design and construction of a prototype body-worn free-space optical networking system.• Design and construction of an automated fibre alignment system.• Monitoring funding bodies and disseminating project opportunities.• Project management, technical leadership and strategy development.• Workspace (Sharepoint) champion.• Laboratory custodian and in training to assume role of Laser Safety Officer.• Engineering Education Scheme Mentor for three years with STEMNet.

Researcher developing the Virtual Laboratory as part of the HEFCE funded PiCETL project. Focus on Interactive Screen Experiments developed in Macromedia Director. ISE's allow teaching of experimental skills to remote students and research carried out in partnership with the Open University.Also assisted in the development of Educational Materials for the PPLATO project.

Training room setup technician and on-site rapid support for training room and computer based exams held at Microsoft UK. Role involved administration and support for classrooms of computers and providing close on-site support during exams.

I spent some time at NPL working in the optics and Biotechnology Department as part of my MSc placement and my PhD on Confocal polarisation Studies of Biomolecule
