About William Generett Jr., Esq.

William (Bill) Generett Jr. is a seasoned executive with a diverse background spanning over 25 years working in the nonprofit, corporate, and entrepreneurial sectors. Bill holds pivotal roles at Duquesne University as a Senior Vice President, an Executive in Residence at the School of Business, and an Adjunct Professor at the School of Law. Bill provides strategic guidance to the President and Board of Directors, focusing on community engagement initiatives that drive quantifiable positive social impact and yield record-breaking fundraising outcomes while creating real-world learning and research opportunities for students and faculty. Before joining Duquesne University, Bill was the founding President and CEO of Urban Innovation21 (UI21), a groundbreaking technology-based economic development and public-private partnership. Under Bill’s leadership, UI21 became one of the region’s most successful technology-based economic development organizations. It garnered national and international recognition for its ground-breaking work to connect underserved communities to Pittsburgh’s innovation economy. Because of his success, during President Barack Obama’s administration, Bill was appointed by Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker to the U.S. Department of Commerce’s National Advisory Council on Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Recognized for his success at getting women connected to STEM initiatives and jobs in high-growth sectors, in 2017, Bill received an honorary doctorate from Carlow University. In 2018, Governor Tom Wolf appointed Bill to the State of Pennsylvania Benjamin Franklin Technology Development Authority Board, one of the most prominent technology development authorities in the nation. Bill was reappointed to this authority by Governor Josh Shapiro. Bill is very active in the Pittsburgh community. He currently serves on the boards of the Pittsburgh Foundation (Vice-Chair and Chair of the Governance Committee), the Eden Hall Foundation (Paid Director Position), Center of Life, Carnegie Museums, Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, the Advisory Council of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland Pittsburgh Chapter, Shady Side Academy (Executive Committee Member) and the Point Park University Foundation. Over the years, he has received numerous awards for his work.A graduate of Emory University’s School of Law and a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Morehouse College, Bill is licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania and Georgia. Bill is married to Gretchen Givens Generett, Ph.D., and the father of two children, William and Gabrielle.
