Designed and tested a 1Mbit/s QPSK modem using the then new Texas TMS320C25 DSP chip. Built and tested a novel Maximum-Likelyhood Detection modem based on ten pipelined DSPs.Research in autonomous robotics: Maze solving and planetary exploration. Extensive experience gained with the Intel 8051 microcontroller in real-time PID control.Supervised two postgraduate students to a successful conclusion of their PhD research.

Design and development of battery state-of-charge test equipment for Marconi Command & Control Ltd Leicester, RSRE (MoD) and RARDE (MoD) Malvern. Partnered with Department of Chemistry. Designed and built portable test equipment based on embedded microprocessors (8085, Z80). Firmware was coded in the FORTH computer language and developed with a custom interpreter/compiler, LUT-FORTH written by myself.

I worked on test hardware/software for a helicopter-borne anti-submarine dipping sonar project.
