Alex's experience spans 25 years in healthcare strategy and operations and gives him the ability to see patterns and conceive solutions where others are stuck. He is uniquely positioned to design transformative strategies in healthcare as he has done the work other “experts” talk about with tertiary care systems, medical groups, health plans, and organizations seeking to enter the health care market. His most recent role was as Vice President of Provider Network and Innovation at Cambia Health Solutions (a large regional BlueCross BlueShield plan) where he led provider strategy, development of value-based care solutions, and the provider relations teams. Prior to Cambia, Alex led the growth of Avalere Health’s Center for Payment and Delivery Innovation. Here he developed strategies for health plan and other healthcare stakeholder clients to improve beneficiary access, reduce costs, and increase quality of care. His deep analytical insights for innovative data-driven solutions were aimed at improving patient care management and coordination for health systems. Not only could health system revenue be improved, but mitigate costly readmissions and improve clinical outcomes. Alex has held leadership roles at Kaiser Permanente, where he collaborated with the health plan and medical group on delivering high quality, affordable, and patient-centered care. Kaiser Permanante offered an opportunity to focus growth maximization efforts for one organization’s success. It was here that understanding both market and organizational dynamics allowed curated teams to solve for patient experience, cost, and quality for both the medical group and the health plan. The National Academy of Medicine and Huron Consulting gave him a national perspective when working with health systems and payers. He led strategic and operational initiatives aimed at improving health plan member satisfaction and reducing operational costs, authored thought-leadership publications targeting cross-industry innovation, and helped academic health systems improve care coordination, utilization management, and discharge planning interventions. Alex lives in the Washington DC Metro area with his partner and their two black Labrador Retrievers. He enjoys sailing, studying French, and competing in triathlons.
