I'm someone who doesn't like tedious work - so much so, I made my career out of removing said tedious work wherever possible. From bash scripts to DAGs to full on programs, my ultimate goal is to remove nonsense.I take mentality home, too. If there's a way to automate some droll task, I'll put time and effort into doing so - it's part of why I built a home lab. I'll run minecraft or terraria servers in one stack, while running the latest JetBrains CI/CD software in another stack. Even if I don't wind up using them all the time, for the few times they do get used, I appreciate them, and I like to learn how things work together.I've had an interest in programming and automation since I was little, all the way back to a VTech laptop's BASIC compiler, to the latest version of python I'm using today. I love that computers can do so much work so quickly, and I want to find out how to make them do it.I'll take a problem to solve over yet another meeting that could've been an email. Only recently have I been exposed to a full team of automation engineers - even though we all work on differing projects, it's fantastic to have someone else that you can bounce ideas off of.My ultimate goal with any process is to get as close to "touchless" as possible. Start small, expand the criteria as we progress, until the team that was dealing with the process previously only has to manage the occasional business exception instead of everything they were doing previously. They get time back to focus on more important things, and I typically walk away with a better understanding of that side of the business, or at least a better understanding of what software they were using.People shouldn't be treated as numbers - we weren't born from computers. A lot of the processes people are relegated to do though, are born from computers. Numbers to numbers, we can give people time back to do what they do best, while automation and computers enhance the rest.
