The Slowdive Gallery is a grassroots art gallery/venue that was recently established in 2020 within the heart of downtown Norfolk. Through the cultivation of an inclusive, creative community, they provide a platform to showcase local multidisciplinary art. Slowdive achieves this by hosting local art shows, partnering with local artists & businesses, and providing resources for the community at large. They are also working with the City of Norfolk to establish a unique cultural tourism aspect to help take the city's image as a destination to the next level. Along with that they host artistic retreats and community programs to help enhance the skills and network of local creatives. I worked in all facets of the business and furthered my knowledge on venue operations. Along with that, I gained technical skills such as DJing(mixing music) and how to set up sound for a live event. Through this experience I was able to strengthen my connections with the local art community in the 757 while learning how to better serve the creative scene a whole.My experience included:• Develop and implementing an educational DJ program that taught new and old DJs how to properly operate industry standard equipment.•Analyzing Slowdive's business model and helping implement new strategies to further their success.•Contextualizing Slowdive's social media & website analytics to better understand what may have caused uptick or downturns in activity.• Identifying possible improvements of website and social media to build a more cohesive identity for their brand.•Creating a mission, vision, value, & positioning statement to more clearly articulate the value proposition of Slowdive•Working as Barback and Operations support during weekly events

Their mission is to provide opportunities to student interested in gaining more experience in the Broadcasting Industry. This was my first chance to express the passion I have for local art and make a difference within their community. I uploaded 200+ local songs to the station & interview over 20 local artists. My biggest achievement was organizing a "Meet & Greet" with upcoming North Carolinian artist Tiacorine and interviewing her afterwards.My 3 positions at WKNC were: Assistant Local Music Director, Interview Content Creator, & DJ. My experience included:• Contacting/networking with local artists• Writing articles based on the local music scene• Upload/editing music for WKNC's weekly rotation on air• Coordinate & conduct interviews with artists & public figures• Collaborate with team members on various projects

They provide a range of services that help make the community a better place to live, work, play, shop, dine, learn and visit, including: cleaning, security, beautification, marketing and communications, economic development, special events and tourism, planning and advocacy, parking and transportation, research, arts and community.Through my work with their marketing team I was able reach more specific demographics of people who fit their target market. I also gained insight on how a corporate nonprofits operate and connect with their surrounding communities. Dorothea Dix Park is transformative public space for the community & is slated to be one of the most cutting edge parks in the country. I had an amazing time getting to know the park and understanding all of the operating elements that go into it.I assisted with a variety of events from movies on the lawn to concerts inside the Chapel. I have gained experience with community outreach and have gained a better understanding on the components required to have a successful event.My experience included:• Managing indoor & outdoor community events • Community Outreach• Park Facilitation • Maintaining safety standards

The Special Events Team was apart of the marketing department for the Carolina Hurricanes. They facilitate community events and sell 50/50 to fundraise for different causes.This gave me the opportunity to understand the different aspects of the sports industry. I worked among massive crowds of people to ensure their safety and that all their needs we met. The Army Medical Corps is unlike any other branch of the Army as our sole focus is ensuring the care of soldiers, retirees, & dependents. The Behavioral Health Clinic that I worked in provided counseling & psychiatric services for the entire post. Overall I had a very enriching Army experience and developed fundamental professional workplace practices that I utilize everyday. As a Behavioral Health Technician, I had a very unique and untraditional Army experience. I worked directly with a varying degree of professionals including; NCOs, Officers, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, & Social Workers. My experience included:• Manage and coordinating outpatient mental health treatment activities program• Providing mental health counseling to patients under the direct supervision of Army psychiatric providers• Collect & recording psychosocial and physical data in collaboration with clinical psychiatrists• Interview & triaging hundreds of patients in order to establish appropriate treatment plans• Specialized CBRNE (Chemical, Biological, Radioactive, Nuclear, and Explosives) training in preparation for mass casualty events

The mission of the B.O.S.S. program is to enhance the morale and welfare of single Soldiers, increase retention, and sustain combat readiness. B.O.S.S. is the collective voice of single Soldiers through the chain of command, which serves as a tool for commanders to gauge the morale of single Soldiers regarding quality of life issues. Additionally, B.O.S.S. also sponsors a variety of activities before, during and after deployment alongside the Military Wellness & Recreation Department(MWR) to maintain the morale of single Soldiers affected by increased operational tempo and deployment stress.This was where I discovered my passion for serving different communities and organizing events. I helped plan and book retreats, recreational trips, and activities. Along with that we also volunteered with different organizations off post to build a healthy relationship with the civilian population.My experience included:• Planned and coordinated local community events and volunteer programs• Surveyed target markets to help develop various strategies for future recreation programs• Coordinated leisure trips for large groups of soldiers while collaborating with community partners• Volunteered with Soldiers Against Drunk Driving(S.A.D.D.)
