Whit is an experienced transportation and city planner, with a career emphasis on multimodal transportation planning, land use planning and urban design, strategic communications, storytelling and public involvement for better decision-making. He has many years of experience in a wide range of transit planning, operations, funding and governance projects, and has played a lead role in corridor and downtown area master plans, bicycling and walking projects, complete streets and community visioning efforts. After a 27-year career in consulting, Whit became executive director of the newly unified Pinellas Planning Council and Pinellas Metropolitan Planning Organization, responsible for leading the merger of those two agencies and integrating countywide land use and transportation planning. He also plays a role in helping to improve the regional transportation network for Pinellas, Hillsborough and Pasco Counties in West Central Florida. He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) since 1993, and was inducted into the AICP College of Fellows (FAICP) in 2012.
