A hands on cooking and garden program teaching students in elementary and middle schools to grow, prepare and eat fresh produce as a part of their in-school or after-school curriculum. Students develop improved critical thinking skills and carry the knowledge of growing and eating healthy foods with them throughout their lives.Develop curriculum and promotional materials for FEAST programs. Identify and network with community partners.Work with Outreach Coordinator to properly staff classes with volunteers. Supervise service learning students/volunteers during classes. Administrative tasks and record keeping; attendance and lesson plans. Ensure proper equipment, supplies and food are acquired for classes in a timely manner.

Students work within the scope of the 4 Elements of Hip-Hop: B-Boy (Dance), Emcee (Rap/Spoken Word/Poetry), Graffiti (Drawing), DJing (Producing) with the option to create an original art piece to present to the class, in an effort to help students identify their artistic talents, and help them discover the healing power of self-expression and develop self-confidence by sharing their talents. Students will also learn about the history of Hip-Hop as well as other forms of African-American Music.

Education: -Provide frequent free gardening education workshops for network members and the public.Volunteer recruitment: -The Garden Network serves as a portal for new community garden volunteers, matching volunteers with gardens based on skill, experience, availability, and need.Monthly newsletters and listserv: -Google group listserv streamlines network-wide communications, and monthly electronic newsletters over listserv feature educational topics, upcoming events, and shared garden successes and challenges.Connecting with food system initiatives : -The Garden Network coordinator participates in collaborative initiatives such as the Asheville/Buncombe Food Policy Council and the Urban Agriculture Alliance, elevating the voice and role of community gardens in the shared work of building and sustaining an equitable and thriving local food system.
